Quite the comeback, also pitched the final outs of the World Series last year. Some in the Red Sox camp say he still has more upside potential, too.

The Mike & Mike Show this morning said that was the 4th no hitter that Jason Varitek has caught. It could have been the 6th but Pedro Martinez AND Curt Schilling both shook off Varitek's signal in the ninth inning of no hitter's only to give up a hit on that pitch.

Its against the Royals I mean I could throw at least 6 shut out innings against those guys.

Only the second time the Royals have ever been no hit. They have the 6th best team batting average in the American League.

Varitek shoulda done Martinez and Schilling like Crash did Nuke Laloosh in Bull Durham

Yep. He should have bitch slapped both after botching "HIS" no-hitters.
Varitek is the typical unsung (at least in public) player who is shouldered with the task of handling the "high strung" personalities to get success. That says a lot about his personality and presence. He is only the thrid Captain the Sox have officially had. The other two were Carl Yastzremski (1969 - 1983) and Jim Rice (1985 - 1989). Didn't realize just how good Varitek has been over his career. I really like him and (gasp!!) Jorge Posada from the Yankees. Both awesome catchers in every aspect of the game.

catcher are normally the heart and soul of a team, (if they have a good one)
