My SX-1250 is finally done and on its way back !
I sent my mint 1977 Pioneer SX-1250 (arguably the best built, best looking and best sounding receiver ever made) to one of the best bench-techs in the country to be totally rebuilt & recapped. It was still working perfectly, but anytime you have capacitors +30 years old its just a matter of time before one of them lets go and fries everything in a puff of smoke. Then you go from a procedural rebuild/recap job, to a triage & find what all you fried/smoked job. Here is all that was done. She sounded sweet before being shipped off, cant wait to put my new FM Soundtrack LP on the turntable and pipe it thru the newly redone 1250 ! "No static at all,,,,,, FM !"
Forget the cheap black plastic crap they sell today, THIS is how you shake the sheetrock in your listening room!

You look at that power rating compared to modern stuff and you think pffff no biggie, but knowing how much mass those babies were driving back then puts it into perspective.
On a related note, I thought this was a Whknuckle sighting. LOL

I bought a new Pioneer VSX1023 home theatre receiver for the Dolby TrueHD for BluRays, and I don't think the whole receiver weighs 22 lbs
My main music system is powered by an old Denon integrated amp, though. No plastic there.
Denon has made some very good gear in the past !
I used to have a nice set of mid 70s CBR Cornwalls but sold them to a friend. To this day Ive never heard any loudspeaker as smooth as Cornwalls & K-horns. No listener fatigue. Their products further down the ladder are still head-and-shoulders above most everything else in the industry.
Then one year we were on vacation and the house got broken into and someone stole them.
I don't remember what Klipsch replaced the KG's with, but we heard them and said 'nope!' and searched high and low to find someone with a new set of the discontinued 5.5's. We found an audio dealer in Texas that had some and had them shipped up.
I've been watching craigslist to try to find a back-up set, because if they go down and can't be fixed, I don't know what I'll do!
Cornwalls would be nice, though!

The CBR Cornwall is raw birch veneered 3/4" birch plywood. (CBR = Cornwall Birch Raw)

Id rather listen to a nice set of ElectroVoice Patricians, Wharfdales or some clean Altec 'Voice of the Theater' enclosures.
But then again, Im a wierdo.
They have no idea what they are missing.
Has 2 eight inch subs in the front and a twelve inch sub in the rear. Incredible sound....
As for MP3s? I wouldnt subject my sweet recapped gear to such crap. LOL
