So, you got a job as a bikini waxer?
That would be under Bill's watch.

I hope you were guaranteed a rate (in writing), it's no fun being a BM.
You will have fun either way and get to see a lot of the world.
Good luck

Me and my recruiter were talking about this the other day.

Make sure you get a rate, in writing, you want to go to school right after boot camp.
A lot of people get surprised after boot camp and find them self going straight to a ship and chipping paint.
I was a Machinist Mate, down in the engine room. It was pretty hot, but I loved it.

Get a guaranteed A school or don't sign shit. Also think about how marketable the job will be in the civilian world. Something in Nukes if you're smart or computers or electronics. I was an Avionics tech and got a lot of valuable schooling.

Nukes are a bitch & it's a 6 year committment. If you bomb 1 test in nuke school you're out of the program & stuck with the 6 years. MM is a good rate. The experience you gain from steam generation will stand you in good stead in civilian life. 90% of the people hired by utilities to run power plants & electrical systems are ex Navy. Electricity won't go out of style anytime soon.

I own and run a headhunting firm and we work exclusively with technically skilled military folks who are leaving the service. 80% of the people we place are sailors.

If you can get into Nuke school and don't mind a 6 year stint do it!!!

Rank of rates based on years of experience placing guys around the country and speaking to thousands of employers.
Highest sought after rates by employers looking for technical skills in order are:

EMN (Electricians Mate Nuclear)
ETN (Electronics Technician Nuclear)
MMN (Machinist Mate Nuclear)
ET (Electronics Technician)
FC (Fire Controlman)
EM (Electricians Mate)
GSE (Gas Turbine Systems Technician -- Electrical)
GSM (Gas Turbine Systems Technician -- Mechanical)
AT (Aviation Electronics Technician) Not Aircrew
MM (Machinist Mate)
