Does moonshine go bad?

Used to buy my 'shine from a guy named Jethro (no shit) in Picayune, Ms. It was pretty good stuff, but it was clear moonshine with flavoring mixed in. Pretty good kick to it despite being cut significantly from the added flavoring, and decent tasting stuff. Then I tasted this REALLY good stuff from another guy, but he wouldn't sell it, just gives it to friends. He grows black cherries on his farm and uses them to make his "Cherry Bomb." It was knock-you-on-your-ass potent since it wasn't cut with artificial flavoring but had a really good taste to it since it was made from the cherries. Tried my hardest to get the guy to sell me some but he wouldn't (he was at my office with some friends of mine to watch the St. Patrick's day parade earlier this year). Told me to bring the kids up to the farm and let them have some fun picking cherries and he's send me away with some - I don't even know the guy so I didn't take him up on it, I just wanted to buy a gallon.
Anyway, my friend has had a gallon jug of it sitting around for 8 or 9 months now and just gave it to me. The bottle has about a 4 inch layer of pea-sized shrunken cherries at the bottom. Still has that cherry smell to it but tastes almost like pure alcohol, so I guess it's done a little extra fermenting over the past 8-9 months. Does that stuff spoil or anything or can I drink it without fear of death?
