Broken ribs

Anybody here have experience with broken ribs? Wadded myself on a rock slab a few weeks ago and I’ve been able to work and ride through it, but the pain is very mercurial. Some days it’s unbearable and I can hardly breathe, other days I can do push-ups and overhead work without any problems. Anybody have an idea of what I might be dealing with here? Cracked rib, bruised/torn muscle, bruised lung?

Doctor Tony here, broke four ribs once, didn’t know it but I partially clasped my lung

You can get lidocaine patches over the counter for the pain. They worked wonders for my dad and they are a great alternative to getting doped up on narcotics.

Looks like I’m going to stick to my usual regimen of 3000 mg Tylenol and a pot of coffee every morning, see how far that gets me. Gotta spread that tender love somehow.

Uh.....3 “000” mg ?

I would suggest reading about Tylenol overdose. Also read about maximum doses of Tylenol. And how it affects your liver.

Recommended Dosages of Tylenol come in: 325,650 and 1000. (I’m not recommending, the drug label is recommending which you can read)

Thi guess the good news is that the liver regenerates too. I've had kids that ended up with bleeds because they take crazy amounts of Motrin. I swear there is no hope for the human race.

On a side note, you sounded kind of burnt out when you were talking about your work. Have you considered switching specialties? The ER is a totally different animal.
