I was driving down a two lane road two weeks ago, with my wife and three kids in the car, that had a 4-6 foot bike lane...and I come up on a cyclist who is riding right on the white line (with ear phones in his ears)...as I'm coming up on him, there is a man hole cover right in the middle of the white line...rather than go around it to the right...he goes around it to the left (coming directly into my lane...while I'm RIGHT behind him). I either have to hit him, or swerve into the other lane. Fortunately for him, there was no on coming traffic and I was able to swerve into the other lane to miss him (but if there was oncoming traffic I would have hit him before I put my family in a head on collision).
Cyclist need to stay off the white line. So I wish more cops would ticket them when they do.
Flats or no flats...it doesn't matter...they are a road hazard and a danger when they are on the white line.
Cops need to learn to hide their piece of shit personalities, if they did, things would go much smoother and the public wouldn't hate them as much.
Any cop that shows attitude, for situations that are not threatening, should be fired.

I constantly shake my head at cyclists for those very reasons.

If the law says you can't ride your bike in the traffic lane and get ticketed, you can't put the blame on the cop.
I'm growing to despise cyclists. Their sense of entitlement when it comes to the road is ridiculous.
My family and I took a drive yesterday over alpine loop (Hightway 92 through American Fork canyon over to Sundance and then Provo Canyon)...NARROW road over a steep mountain pass (in the Uintah National Forrest), with TONS of cyclists on it. In some places the canyon isn't even wide enough for two cars to pass.
Anyway you'd get groups of cyclists riding two, three or four wide at like 1mph peddling up this steep canyon...holding up traffic...I honked my horn when I was behind these two guys riding side by side in the middle of the road...and they yell back "share the road" and gave me the bird.
Screw Cyclists man...I wish they weren't allowed to ride on roads that don't have a bike lane...and then I wish they were ticketed every time they tried to ride on the white line.
The loop starts at abut 5 minute mark of this video:

Some idiot car drivers love to fuck around with cyclists. They think it's a game when they are risking potentially killing another human.
Some of you in this thread are speaking as if you are quoting laws. I.E. bikes must stay to the right of the white line. Keep in mind, laws vary from state to state and jurisdiction to jurisdiction so it's kind of pointless to speak in absolutes here without knowing what place we are talking about.
I will say this, here in AZ the white line has no relevance whatsoever to bikes. There is no law saying bikes must be to the right of the line. The fact that many car drivers believe there is such a law is the source of much of the heartache. I wish people would actually know what the laws say before they go off half-cocked trying to tell people how to do shit. All the law says in AZ is that bikes "must ride as far to the right as is practicable" and that they "may move to the left to avoid rocks, glass, drainage grates, road debris, etc." A bike is allowed to use the entire lane if need be and may ride 2 abreast. A bike is not required to move out of the way for cars behind them until at least 5 are backed up! Again, talking about AZ.
Also, in AZ, there is no requirement for a bike to use bike lanes. They are a convenience but usage is not mandatory.
Now, all that being the "letter of the law", there is also common sense. If there is a bike lane or a decent shoulder, yes, I use it. I try to always place myself in the safest position possible and avoid conflict. I avoid streets and highways that have heavy traffic or just aren't conducive to bike riding, even though I have every right to be there. I ride street bike also and I'm sure some of you have heard the saying when it comes to right of way: You may be right, DEAD RIGHT!
Here's another one I love. When cars come up on bikes they just think they have to absolutely get around, no matter what. I'll be on roads that are speed limit 25 and I'm doing that or more but yet these fuckers gun it and take stupid risks trying to get around. Be damned they ain't gonna follow a bike!
And I also hate the cyclists who try to force the issue on the letter of the law by being obnoxious and not using the shoulder or bike lane when there is one. Yeah, I know it's their right, but again, common sense has a place too. I've actually stopped riding with many of these guys and mostly ride by myself because of these types.
Pit Row
I live just outside of town where the bicyclists like to ride. sometimes they come by in packs of 20-40 riders at a time. typically the route they like is going the up hill direction on my road. they go very slow and do not move over for the cars. the road is windy so the cars can't just go around as it's unsafe, the speed limit is 45 mph and you can't see far enough ahead. the cars may have to go 2-5 miles per hour for half a mile before the cyclists let them by. They have no regard for the people driving cars and thus create a situation that the car drivers "hate" them. I believe that the car drivers pay for the road and the(lack of) maintenance in every gallon of gas we buy and expensive registration fees. Bicycles pay nothing for their recreational use of the road. Yes, some people use the road for transportation but the vast majority are recreational riders in my area. They created this hatred them self, and now whine about it. I smile every time I see a bicycle rider stopped by a cop (which is very rare). having said all that, I should say that I also use (did use) the road for riding a bicycle, I used to ride to work (saved gas money). I have had things thrown at me (fruit) from cars, vehicles intentionally pass me very close, and other obnoxious things. In general I get mad at them and then ultimately go back to blaming the idiots that ride bicycles with such disregard of drivers that created the bad blood.
And by the way, if a bicycle rider thinks they are saving the planet riding a bike. If they cause 50 cars to be held up 1 extra minute on their commute they just caused more pollution then had they drove a car themself.
In closing, stay out of the driving lane and your odds of experiencing bad things go way down. the cops and other drivers will most likely focus their bad attitude on the ones creating the problem. IE: the nail that stands out gets hammered.
Cops have a very difficult job, yes some are ass holes, but we all have shitty days. that doesn't mean we are all shitty people.
There are assholes in cars too. There's always some shithead going 10 mph under the speed limit clogging up the road. Do you then generalize and say all car drivers are assholes? I once had an asshole in a Chevy truck cut me off. Should I now start chucking shit at Chevy trucks and say "well, they brought it upon themselves!!!"
Not every asshole on a bike on the road is my buddy. We are not all members of the same club or some shit. Bikes are just a mode of transportation, not a brotherhood. Why should I be lumped in and harassed because of some shit some other idiot on a bike did?
People at work talk just like that, complaining about bikes and even bragging about how they like to fuck with them. Calling all cyclists spandex wearing faggots, as if they can ascertain a person's sexuality by the vehicle they operate or the clothes they wear. I always kindly remind them that I ride a bike and the next time they fuck with a cyclist on the road or end up killing one it just might be me, not some random spandex wearing faggot that deserves to die.
Example number 1:

The most dangerous drivers are those that are distracted by texting or other activities on their smartphones, GPS, etc.,. This is why I don't let my sons road cycle with me but do safer sports together like MX and off-road rides.
When there's no bike lane, the law in AZ says as far to the right as safe. That's the riders judgement....and frankly, when you're driving in your vehicle at 35+ mph, you aren't able to see all the obstacles/crap on the road that the rider is avoiding when he chooses his line.
In Arizona, the law states you must give a cyclist 3 feet. No matter where they're riding. I'd be happier if it was 5 feet.
I ride in large packs and yes, sometimes they take a lane. From a practical standpoint, it's far easier and safer for vehicles to wait for a place to use the oncoming lane to pass a pack of 75 riders, rather than try to "sneak" by a quarter mile long "two-up" line of bikes. However, the law in this state says it's no more than two abreast. Personally, I ride in the gutter, or next to someone in the gutter, which means I'm never breaking the "two up" law.
You guys have no problem talking crap about "ass hole cyclists". Legally, we have just as much right to use the road as you do. I'm guessing you talk the same shit about other cars and motorcyclists that aren't driving as fast as you'd like....right?
You want to post up how much taxes you paid last year???? Let's all do that and then we'll see who has the "right" to use the public roads. Goddamm how I'd like to have our country defines "rights" by who actually pays for them!!!

so yes every time I buy a gallon of gas I am helping pay for the road way. What does the bicycle contribute?

All of you guys bagging on cyclists in this thread completely miss the irony of the tree huggers and equestrian's screaming about us riding dirt bikes on "their" precious trails, and ya'll doing essentially the same thing with bicyclists and the streets.
