I bought three of them at Sam's last week. They look real efficient, but super costly right now.

Are they Cree 5's, I think that is the designation? They are super efficient but put off tons of heat so the flashlight has to be able to get rid of that. If you are using it a long duration at a time, they can fry batteries and the bulb. I have a surefire that is LED, puts out 80 lumen. You can get bulbs for it that put out 225 lumen.

Talking about this one?

I thought they weren't out until July. 40W incandescent bulb output for the electricity of a 7W bulb.

I'm not a big fan of any bulbs other than regular incandecent or whatever they are. The "white" light really bothers me.

I have a customer that lives far enough into the sticks that they live just on solar, with a generator as a backup. We spent 30 minutes talking about light bulbs and energy savings this last Friday. They were raving about the new LED lightbulbs; once you swap everything out for them, the energy savings are significant. The wife mentioned that even 4' tube florescent lights can be replaced with the LED's.

As a bonus, there's no mercury (unlike CFL's).

They say it replaces a 40-watter. Umm, no, I wouldn't say that. Maybe a 20-watter.

Home Depot has a great deal on them a couple weeks back. My wife bought a whole case of them. Not sure if it's still going on?

The picture you put up (Ger) doesn't look at all like the Philips bulb I posted. And the Philips isn't available until July. It's supposed to put out the same light as a 40 watt incandescent.

We have all 100 W Flourescents, take 27 watts, and way more light, than a 60 watter.

Good enough, price is right. Especially if you buy a 12 pack or so.

No, you can not use them with a dimmer light.

Its coming. I am a highway electrical contractor and all new traffic signal displays are LED and most old ones have been retrofitted. The have full on highway luminaires as well but cost has not balanced savings yet unless you look forward 10-20 years and none have been in use that long. The makers obviously want to keep the cost high or the useful life managable or they will go out of business. We have the technology to make an incandescent filament last forever but the lamp companies wont hang themselves. BTW cfl's are the worst environmentally for sure. It's a scam. what isn't?
