...to the local war memorial.

I noticed the flags at half mast the other day.

Turns out it was for my next door neighbor's nephew.

Great kid.

He used to sit in my front yard and play his guitar until I invited him in to jam.

Killed in Afghanistan at age 19.

I haven't seen Claudio Sr. since I got the news, and I don't know what I'm going to say when I do...

When ever he comes over to visit his brother, he ends up at my house, because his brother is a Mormon, and Claudio Sr. enjoys him some beers.

He's such a happy go lucky guy, I'm not looking forward to seeing him devastated by his son's death.

This is the second kid from my neighborhood.

It really brings it home when you watched them grow up.

I can't imagine how their folks must feel.

End of next month, my daughter's Marine boy friend is going camping with us for his last week of R&R, then he's off for his third tour.

I hate to think about him not coming back...

Sorry bro.

A damn shame.

I look at the names in the newspaper all the time.

Seems like nobody cares much anymore.

Sorry for your loss, that really sucks, they need to bring them guys home from Iraq and Afhganistan, we live near a us army base, and some of them guys have gone 3 or more times, most of them are deployed to afhgan right now.

These things make it hard to get a grasp on the need for war.

Some do care. Maybe not as many as should, but I care a hell of alot. These young men are busting their asses(women too) and people should be ashamed of forgetting what it is they are going through over there.

Sorry to hear you are having to go through that with your neighbor.

X2

Prayers sent for the family and friends but frankly I am getting a little tired of praying about this shit and beginning to feel like no one is listening.

Just a bump...

It's the shared stories, like this, that can remind me how important ending all this is.

Still in my thoughts...

Godspeed.

No.

That was Robbie, from around the corner.

He died in Iraq.

And now:

On my way to work this morning, I had to stop for a funeral procession.

Lots of American flags, an SUV full of uniformed Marines right behind the hearse, and the VFW motorcycle club.

I guess we lost yet another local.

Fuckin' war.Sad

Most of the military are doing many multiple tours now, I just hate the fact the old men are again making decisions and arguing and the young are dying. I hate our politicians, a bunch of self serving assholes. They lose sight of the reason they are in office asap.

Total respect for our soldiers. It's a shame there isn't more done to help them, both here and abroad. RIP Claudio.
