Holy shit, I just looked it up. I can't believe the price of gold these days man. I remember when I was younger (10 years ago) it was at about $250 an ounce. What the hell happened?

On a somewhat related note. I got some good dual sport advice from an east Tenn local one time. Don't ride down any dirt roads that don't have street signs.

$400 for an ounce isn't a bad price at all considering the quality thats like going to the bar and buying top shelf Johhny Walker lets say black label for like $7-$10

Much like the rise in gold prices, I heard that this was a response to the HIGH demand. When these shops figure out what their demand will be, the prices will probably settle down a bit.

How much of that $400 goes to the state? I heard Colorado was expecting 67 million in generated revenues. I bet it is substantially more than that.

Other states will see this new source of revenue, and will get in line.

That is my guess, anyways.

How is legalizing and selling it for $400 an ounce supposed to curb the black market selling? Seems like you can get it on the black market for cheaper than $400. . .

It's not supposed to curb black market distribution. This was a constitutional amendment passed by the citizens of Colorado.

$400 is roughly double what someone could expect to pay on the street. However, as was pointed out earlier, this price is elevated due to the rush that came with legalization -- its gouging. Moreover, there were less that 40 shops that were opened the first week - from what I have read there is something like 117 pending license applications.

Demand wasn't necessarily underestimated. The licensing process is just super slow.

Most of the "black market" dudes locally would get it from the dispensaries to start with over the past couple years. Since they made weed legal, I have a feeling most users will avoid going to the doctor to get a medical authorization, and will just go straight to the retail dispensaries.
