I was out tweaking the rear shock of my KX100 and was adjusting the rebound. I screwed the rebound in all the way to the fully seated position and then screwed it out 11 clicks (which is stock setting) and when I felt it, the bike didn't even rebound at all by plopping my butt on it, even when I adjusted the rebound adjusting screw to all the way hard. It eventually did rebound but it did so very slowly. Can someone help me out and tell me what I did wrong and what I need to do? Would the compression damping affect any of this? I did unscrew the compression screw about 1 turn and a half... but when I changed it back to where it was originally it still had this problem.

Thanks for the help

This may be a dumb question but are the shock pivots and linkage greased and in good conditon allowing the shock to move properly? Or did it work until you started messing with the clickers?

If the shock wont rebound it needs a rebuild. You may have crud that broke loose when you started adjusting things and it is blocking oil passages in the valving causing the problem.

Nah sorry man, was probably kinda being smart, and keeping things short and sweet. But yeah, shock is going to need an overhaul by the sound of things !!

Btw, the shock goes down and compresses normally.

That is not what I wanted to hear though. Should I take the shock off the bike and take it in to get serviced or just take the whole bike in?

Take the shock off. You don't want to have to pay for additional time/labor for a shop to disassemble things. While it is apart inspect the linkage neeedle bearings clean up and grease everything.

Based on most shops, how much will it cost for labor and parts to rebuild the shock to where it operates normally. Would I just be better off buying a new shock altogether?

Well,..................., if you ran the rebound adjuster in until it seated, chances are that the metering rod is lodged in its seat. If so, your shock is probably rebounding slllooooooowwwly. If this is the case, you'll most likely need to disassemble the shock to dislodge the metering rod. If you don't know what you're doing, you can mess things up. And yes, it's cheaper to repair than buy a new one. SwapperMX is guiding you down the right road! PM me if you have more questions!

Ok, I may not be able to get the bike fixed by this weekend and my dad just barely got an 11 RZR Ranger and a Kawasaki Bayou and we were going to maybe go on some mellow trails/dirt roads. Would the bike be ok on this? Please understand I will be riding on mostly smoothe if I even ride the bike at all. I may just take the new quad for a spin though.

Sluggish and fast for rebound is highly specific terminology. I'm guessing you are new and this is your first or second bike.

My suggestion is to put all of the clickers back to stock, make sure your sag is setup properly and learn riding skills first.

When you turned in the rebound adjuster, did you tighten it? If you did, you jammed the metering rod and now it is stuck at the equivalent of 0 clicks out. Ride through some bumps with it set to 11 clicks out and you "might" be able to dislodge the metering rod. If the rebound is still really slow, you have to tear it down to fix it.

You are on the right track kid. Most kids will not lift a finger to figure out how their bike works, but you are really getting into it! I like that. Race tech has a new book out that could be a big help for about 35 bucks.
