Alright so,

My friend I will be doing most of my riding with this summer doesn't think I will be as fast or faster than him by the end of the summer (like November). I started riding in August which was just mostly learning how to shift and clutch and about September I started going to the track. I have been to the track about 6-8 times total. I ride a KX100 and my friend is on an XR200 1993. He has been riding since he was a kid. Well, on like a 1 and a half minute track, he is like 1-3 seconds faster than me average. this is on like a beginner track with very small jumps (we rode this because the other one was in terrible condition) I think he is faster in the corners but on a bigger, nicer track with good sized jumps, I think it will even out. What are some ways I can practice at the track to get the most worth out of track days? It feels like my lap times get lower and lower every day at the track but I want to know good ways to practice and what to think about when I am riding to decrease times. I know basic technique stuff but I am just wondering the keys to get faster lap times. I know it is in the corners but I am not sure where I am losing my time the most and where I improve.

Thanks

Work on good form and repition! keep your bike fresh, and if possible ride with someone faster, As long as your having fun it wont seem like work! Get your fitness decent and have a friend use a stop watch, Practice makes perfect! Work on corners, thats where time is made up.

it may sound silly but if you make a desent sized figure 8(big enough to get into second gear) and constintly practice on it, it will help your speed through corners, gett you comfortable with shifting more offten, and just give you alot more experince then just riding a big open area with all straights.

^^^^What 2stroke said. I know it sounds retarded, but its true. The other thing I have done is go to Home Depot and buy the marking flags that come in a pack of 100 for $7 or so and lay out some corners or turning points and force myself to turn at a certain point and work on coming into the corner faster, in the right gear, exiting properly, etc. Seat time, seat time, seat time...
