A kid is going to out grow a 65 in a couple of years for the most part. I bought a used one a few years ago for 2000 (it was 1 year old) and sold it 2 years later for 1600.
Bought a 2 year old brand new honda 85 in 08 for 2300 and sold it a year later for 1900.

I've only bought 1 new vehicle new, a 02 LTA50 Suzuki quad. I'd have bought a used one, but that was their first year, and there were no used ones.

My son's RM65 was $1300 three years ago, it's worth a couple hundred less today.

I buy last year's closeout helmets, so apx $100 ea.

Boots for my son- $50 used. He'll outgrow them in 6 months, and I'll have to do it again. There are lots of parents that are happy to buy the latest and greatest a couple times a year, I'm happy to spend less on something we'll just beat into the dirt anyway.

Yes, I do this on a budget. A very small budget.

1. Depends on the bike.
2. Wouldn't buy any of my kid's bikes new, except the XR50, which I thought I'd keep forever (but didn't). My kid isn't headed the direction to be a pro.
3. $9500. I'm hoping AJ can cut me a deal. Wink
4. Always find deals. Probably not more than $300.
5. I don't want to talk about it.

Spend what you are comfortable spending... I know it sounds like bullshit but that's the way it is. Everybody's level is different.

My next bike will probably be new because I don't want to inherit another riders problems. And yes, it will be a 250 2 smoker if anyone is still making them when I get around to it.

My kids first bike WILL be used. I think she will love it and never stop riding but that is probably just my love for riding and desire to share that with her. For all I know, she will want a bike then want a pony, then want...

I will spend as much or as little as I need to get a helmet that fits me perfectly.

Boots? I prefer a boot without all the gadgets and gizmos so I won't buy the top of the line and I will never buy the bottom of the line... so, whatever that costs.

Matt's got it figured out. Just because the fun is priceless does not mean you have to go broke having it.

$7500 is too much, $5500 is plenty. I'm not buying any used 4 stks so I'm back to whatever 2 stk is available, I have a couple CR250 chassis, CR500 motors so I'll just shuffle them around as needed.

With the 65's it's pretty limited, the KX is a piece so it's $3700 for a KTM or Cobra.

I pay $2800 OTD for RM85's, going to be some issues if he's still on them when $4500 150's are the only option.

1. The dumbass on Thumper Talk who paid over 10 grand for the first 09 CRF450, or buying any bike right when it comes out is too much. People are getting them for right around 6 grand now.
2. No kids, I don't share my toy allowance,lol.
3. Got my new RMZ450 last November for 5800 OTD, that's just a couple hundred more than my new 03 YZ250 was back then(first bike after a 15 year hiatus), but I wouldn't be suprised to see me plunk down 10 grand in a few years. We'll call it at 6500 right now.
4. Just paid 350 for one, so 450 would probably be max.
5. Just re-soled and re-buckled the Tech 10's, so they are probably good for another year.
If I had to get some now I guess I would pop about 350 for some Gaerne SG10's.

i am not sure what the avrrage middle class family makes but is that not the market for bike sales? and new racers the upper class is not a real big piece of the population.

Nobody wants to buy used 4 stks though, at least 250f's. There's about 1000 between the 250 2 stk and 450, I can't imagine msrp on a 2 stk ever being over 7K without stuff we don't need being added.

I was getting pretty good deals on YZ250 from a place in Birmingham Al, $4880 OTD and the last one I bought was 04. My first 450 was a new 06 CRF and I paid a bit over $5500.

Either way, prices are increasing faster with the 4 stks.
