Now that's a seize mark! My 1987 CR 125. Funny thing is, it ran great before I tore the bike down for grease job, frame and engine paint and just general cosmetic upkeep and check of all parts. I didn't seize it, so it had to have happened under previous owner's watch.

Yeah, Boomer. Honed it today and it came out real nice. Inside micrometer measured the barrel in several places from top to bottom revealed it is on its 4th oversize piston. Stock is 54 millimeter. We're at 55+.

Question is: why is it seizing? Exhaust side only? Lean jetting? Poor lubrication/fuel? Air leak?

I'm going with what Paw Paw said in my "Tech Help/Raceshop" post - that it's a cold seizure. It's a Wiseco piston and you simply MUST warm up a forged piston before getting on the gas.

I had Yamaha 125’s back then. The ‘87 YZ was a great bike but I secretly wanted one of the new ‘87 CR’s. They were so different from the ‘86s’. It would have been blasphemy to tell my dad that! Cool project!

I had a 87 CR125 in 88 with a wiseco... cold seized it just like that pulling out of my parents drive way and getting on it up the street and it locked up and broke free. I was 15 and didn’t know jack about jack back then and just rode it! Changed the piston and it looked similar to that. I save all my pistons and I’m sure it’s still at my parents house... I’ll look next time I go down the Arizona!
