With Windham being a National Pro for 16 years, I started wondering who has the potential to be the next Windham. Not his riding style, but the endearment by the fans for the rider. LaRocco, Dowd and Ferry each had some endearment by the fans as long time veterans and now it seems that with Windham coming back to the Nationals and having placed 2nd in SX this year that connection with the fans with the salty veteran is 10 fold. So who do you think it will be?

Naw for real though, Canard is the real deal, and he is extremely likable.

It will never happen again.

None of today's young guns will be out there racing at thirty and beyond.

K-Dub's the last of the mohicans.

And if one of these kids does stick it out that long, you can't tell me "I told you so" 'cause I'll be dead by then!Wink

Pourcel for sure.

Silky smooth style, stands up a lot, makes everything look easy and nearly 22 years old and still riding the 250s. Assuming his back problems don't get worse, with his style he could easily ride well into his 30s.

Sorry to say, geeze is correct...kinda a bummer, it won't be happening again, though.

Yes he is likeable but I think Canard has been a little too beat up already to make it 16 years.

Barcia is a possibility. Not on the same level today but people like to watch him pinball. Langston gets lots of love.

One rider that may endear himself to fans more in the future could be Nick Wey.

He has already been racing at the pro level for a number of years.

He isn't plagued with injuries like the guys that are riding for the win.

If Wey picked up a few wins in his later years, he could be a sentimental favorite.

How many races has Wey missed since turning pro? He doesn't seem to have many injuries that I can remember.

I guess I am looking at this from a longevity point of view. I think Nick may be around longer than some of these other guys who are jacked up from injury.

He may not have the same fan base as Windham does now, but his longevity (depending on how long he decides to compete) could bring them around.

Wey turned pro the last couple nationals of 97 so he is only 3 years behind windham and only 2 years younger than k-dub .They both speak really well and are great ambassadors of the sport but some of kevins appeal is that he can still be the best or fastest on occasion [lots of occasions] and wey is on the downside of his racing career and cant seem to step it up a little out of his comfort zone even given the oppurtunity with factory equipment. He is still going good but I think at 30 and having a family does things to most racers, not all but most...........
guess well just have to enjoy them while they are there.........
Oh and I think the next one could be either Morais or Canard

Agreed. They may not make the long haul THAT long, but of all the riders,I think those 2 will have the "endearment" factor from most fans.

It's gotta be Andrew Short. Consistent as one could be but yet appears that he could "hang it out a little more" and score a few more victories, something that has been said about KW for years.

Except that KW has never been called a "dirty rider".(I'm not saying he is,but it's been said my a few riders and even more fans). That might keep him from getting the love that a KW garners. That being said,I always pull for Andrew.Seems like a good guy. I'd love to see him win one but he tends to leave you empty after leading so many moto's and then fading. Picture him on the podium giving his speech and smiling after fading to third................now picture the look on Lorroco's face if that were him.Blink Grinning

Kevin figured out (properly) that his job is helping his employers make better stuff and sell more of it. I think he also figured out that staying healthy is a big part of that equation. Not many grasp the big picture. You don't necessarily have to stand on the top rung of the podium every week to be quite good at the job. I think that's a big part of his longevity with a single team and his ability to be able to call most of the shots in his career.

It also doesn't hurt that he's blazing fast without even having to try that hard and is a genuinely likable personality.

X 100 ! I really , really dig Andrew man. I hope that guy stays in the game a long time. And sure as shit.....he's getting a little faster year in and year out. Honestly.....I have never seen him ride as fast as he has this year. Weather it was SX or MX......he seems to be "going for it" a lot more these days. He's so polite and well spoken.....that I think any team would love to have him.

Sometimes winning isn't everything. KW is a perfect example. He "can" win on some days , he's just not expected to do it all the time. People friggin' LOVE the guy.......he is a great ambassador for the sport. I think Andrew is headed down the same path.

Kind of bums me out Ferry left to. I think he was headed in the same direction.

I should have mentioned Chad Reed as well. Remember the first or second round where he helped out Regal on the box with his goggle sponsor thing? It's little things like that , that make not only a great rider....but just a great guy to have in the sport.

I think Chad is burned out this year , and I don't see the fire in him like we did last year. But I really hope he sticks around for a good few more years.
