something Always happens in St Louis.......
i have been skip'n the day program timed practices for a while.... and i skipped it today in St Louis... they are just very boring compared to past years when privateers were chucking it left and right trying to make the night program.....
rider intros and air force recuitment are still reallyyyyy long... tonight was around 40 minutes before the first lites qual kicked off......
K-dub has been one of the coolest riders to watch in the intros for years...... and yes, he's the king of front wheel wheelies, but tonight he threw in a really cool transfer jump.... he used a berm as a take off, and a berm on another part of the track as a landing... really trick.....
Dungey looked like a guy off the movie "Tron" during opening cermonies... he was wearing some serious lighting on his neck brace..... little different and cool i guess...
heard some rounds didn't get all the pyro stuff?? the STL seemed to have everything from previous years...
lot of bolt ons in the stands....... wtf?? does every dad feel like they gotta buy tits for their daughter as a high school graduation present??
also lots of "Snookie" hair buns on the ladies..... the fad can not die fast enough.....
for the first year ever, i was sitting at the end of my group and got parked next to a really hot 20'ish female..... more on that later.....
first time i can remember that i was sitting around nearly all sober people... maybe it was just a statistics thing that if you attend enough supercross's you are bound to be surrounded by sober people at some point.... really, really weird...
i was sitting right in front of the box a bunch of TNA wrestlers were using.... the TNA guys got a lot of face time on the tube at the stadium because they have some pay per view tomorrow night in the STL...... guess Feld owns TNA?? oh and.... all the TNA guys were super cool.....
saw a couple bubba the love sponge t-shirts at the race..... personally i'm a stern guy and can't listen to bubba..... but to each their own (and there weren't any people wearing stern shirts or any other radio personality that i saw)..... maybe more people listen to sirius than i thought??
the Edward Jones "Mucho Nachos" freak'n kicks ass..... fairly large portion just smoothered to death in the all the crap you like..... 9 bucks, not cheap, but worth every penny as they really kick in right before the main, leaving a grown man chuckling and trying to look like the innocent party while the 20'ish hot chic sitting beside him is trying to determine just where all those deathly foul smelling farts are coming from...... LOL
btw...... the STL turnout looked about like normal...... i didn't see them announce the attendance, but it looked about like the normal amount of seats were filled....
i had the worst seats i've ever had at the TWA/Edward Jones dome... section 130...... horrible view of the best parts of the track..... BUT.... perfect view of the Villo/Dungey hack corner...... more on that later...... anywhos.... i bought the 4 seat bundle at 15 bucks a seat.... we only had 3 people in our party so we didn't use the fourth seat, but it was cheaper than buying 3 seperate seats.....
i had never seen Barcia race live before, so i was looking forward to it..... i was expecting the kinda speed that i have seen from RC and Bubba in their tiddler years, but it just wasn't there in the qual.... he essentially looked the same speed as all the other top 10 tiddler guys, definitely not what RC and Bubba looked like in their rookie tiddler years...... and i saw something in how Barcia rode that i couldn't see/hear on tv..... you guys that have seen him ride a lot, please chime in if tonight was just the exception, but Barcia's cornering style is different than anybody else.... he gets into the corner and lets off the throttle, before the apex he pulls in the clutch and pins the throttle letting the engine bounce off the limiter, then at the apex he dumps the clutch....
and Barcia's bouncing off the rev limiter on every single jump.... if he hits a kicker or something there just isn't any extra rpm to help pull the front end up...... anywhos..... he looked like he was trying 10 times harder than the guys in front of him in the qual, and because he was overtrying he was making lots of little mistakes... in the main, once he got a good start and a little gap, he was poetry in motion and did look like RC and Bubba, just perfection crushing all the mortals.....
Villo and Dungey were the only two guys that were jumping the entire single to table to single right before the hack corner.... didn't even see anyone else try it in the night program....
Reed looked pretty good in his qual....... he kinda pushed out Dungey and got by him early, then pulled out a little lead........ but...... in years past Reed would just freak'n explode berms... he wasn't doing that tonight..... fast, but not as fast as i remember him being.....
the STL track seemed to be pretty good dirt wise..... years ago it was always slightly too wet and a rut fest...... this year, it was actually maybe a little dry and fell apart slightly in areas, but not bad overall..... it really didn't need a lot of work, but of course they have to bring out the dozers..... i miss previous years when the bobcat drivers would do really gnarly tricks with their machines..... now they are all business.... "sigh"......
Metz and Cowboy Bartrum were there for the Jager jumping stuff...... freestyle is so 2002...... bring back the kids on the 50's....
so my poor seats had the perfect view of the hack Villo put on Dungey..... on one hand, Villo pretty much had to put Dungey on the ground to ensure he didn't get second place points so Villo could have a shot at the title.... on the other, The King MC never had to sink that low to win a title..... so as you'll all see on tv tomorrow, Dungey was leading and they both went into a tight left hand bowl corner.... Villo cut it hard and pinned it and put on a Massive hack t-bone... Dungeys bike landed on top of Villo's, and Dungey was actually standing on Villo's bike while he lifted up his suzi..... both guys Amazingly kept their clutches pulled in and their bikes alive..... the moment Dungey got his bike up, Villo got his up just as quickly, and Villo got moving slightly faster and into the lead...
shortly later..... on a section of the course that i didn't have a good view of, Villo went down hard.... the section was a long rythem section that ended in a triple that some of the guys weren't doing..... from my poor view it looked like Villo's bike locked up and he had to bail..... but i haven't read or heard what really happened, i'm just relating what i saw....
K-dub looked good tonight........ looked quick..... looked K-dub smooth.... but he doesn't look as fast as he was on a yami back in 98......
Brayton...... JB pulled Villo and beat him straight up in the qual....... isn't he originally from Iowa?? if so, maybe he was going faster because it was sorta his "home" race... anyways, he looked every bit as fast as Villo in the qual... i didn't notice him in the main... btw..... if i was a team manager i'd be torqued that some rider would go faster at a "home" race, means he's not trying his hardest all the time if he can pick it up for one certain race.....
Dean Wilson looked quick, but maybe not as fast as i thought he would be... his strong suit seems to be corner speed..... he looked realllyyyy sketchy a few times on the triple that Villo crashed on.....
Metcalfe looks really good..... great form...... but that doesn't seem to help him win races... he's got the speed though.....
Chris Pourcel didn't "really" show up..... LOL.... i think he started spring break after last weeks race..... LOL....
Cards game went 20 innings helping to make a mother of all traffic jams getting out of the stadium...... sweet.....
that's all i can think of for now...... off to the Sauget Ballet.....
