Metisse! Beautiful bikes and if any of the damned Brit engines shifted on the right side......er, I mean on the correct sideWink , I would own one of them. I sold a bunch of BSA stuff years ago that included a semi restored basket case '58 Gold Star engine and a 608cc (I think) CCM powered hardtail flattracker that would have provided a good power source for a Rickman. But then again, that damned right side shift!

cant shift your flat tracker when your left foot is sliding on the track like Dick Bugsy Mann.

if you're into the brit singles, you need to become aquainted with "Team Obsolete" if you arent already.

Those guys sit around and bitch about two strokes taking over their air cooled 4stroke singles, if that is any indicator as to how "obsolete" they are. Cool shit.

Team Obsolete is what bankrupted AHRMA and cost the AMA $750,000.00 of members money since the were standing strong with AHRMA against the supposed evil of Rob Ianucci, owner of Team Obsolete. He and Jeff Smith had a falling out and he vowed to bring AHRMA down.....and he did thanks to the pigheadedness of Jeff Smith refusing to back down on a frivolous pissing match of a lawsuit. Ianucci could piss a hell of a lot farther than Jeff!!! Dave Roper kicked some serious ass old the old iron. Crazy fast for old bikes!

I had friends who would go back to back motos switching between right and left hand shift bikes. I realized they weren't for me when I couldn't get halfway down the street in front of my house on my 1970 BSA441 Victor Special.

You get used to it. It is the switching back and forth that'll do you in. Although having ridden both, I find that in an emergency, it is a lot easier to do all the braking on one side.
There is a theory behind that madness: The Brits thought it made sense since when you walk, you put one foot and the opposite hand forward. Thus clutch and shifter on opposite sides. Same for braking.

My first real motocross bike was a Rickman Zundapp. Theoretically, it shifted on the left but "shifting" was a hope-and-wish thing. But it was a beautiful bike.

One tip - don't loop one out. That's very brittle fiberglass. If you loop it at high speed, it disappears into a blue cloud. You roll into the cloud like you're being swallowed by a Smurf.

It wasn't just British bikes that shifted that way - old Huskys and Bultacos shifted on the right, too.
