Our local track will have a gate drop at the start of practice for any of the practice groups that request it. Even though there are riders of all abilities on the line it still is a blast because you usually get linked up with someone with similar skill level and a battle ensues! There are no plastic tropies on the line so you can ride as hard and as long as you want, everyone seems to have a blast. No pressure just fun.

IMO... Racing has dropped off because:

Too many Gates.
Too many classes.
Too short of Motos.
Too many people looking for a trophy, Even worse contingency.
Too many riders want to talk about riding/racing than actually ride or race.
Too many people don't want to sign up as a "C" rider or beginner because it will ruin the track "cred" they have fabricated for themselves.
Too many people actually don't want to know where they stack up, particularly if they signed up for the "C" class
Too many people aren't interested in actually being a racer when they can just play one during the week.

Apparently it is better to think you're good than have them drop a gate and find out. It's a reflection of our current society.

I don't see what the problem is? If most people just want to practice, the track is still being used.

My thoughts exactly. Seems strange to think that because you own a bike, you're supposed to sign up for races.

i dont get the stigma about being a C rider ..i'd rather be a somewhat decent rider than be good at any other sport... cause i love riding Smile

MX is a sport that takes place on Sundays in fields far away from civilization and chances are, 3/4 of the people you know in real life will know what motocross is or care enough to know how well you placed.

When I had a bike and I had a good day at the track, it all fell on deaf ears at home or with anyone i knew who didnt ride .. lolol

That being said ...track promoter should have more "pick up" races ..
