I noticed this a few races ago & still trying to figure it out.

On the back of Pourcel's jersey it looks like a big number 4, not 377. I have not seen an up close photo or camera angle to really see any detail, but it just looks weird.

I know the AMA has strict guidelines on these things.

Yeah I've fallen for that optical illusion on TV as well. It's just the design on the back of his chest pro. From far away sometimes it looks like a 4.

Noticed it too, didn't know what was up. Kind of a poor design if you can't read the number.

I always thought it was a big 7....Then when I saw it closer I noticed the weird stripe / color combo thing makes it look test way.

The chest protector graphic defiantly looks like a #4. Not sure about AMA guidelines about jersey numbers but I do remember Brad Ripple wearing a Joe Oehlof(sp?) jersey at RedBud when the Subway Honda team was still around. Ripple had his chest protector with his number, #304, on it. I assume as long as the outer most layer is numbered correctly that is all they are concerned about.
