Just wondering if the new AMA amateur rules regarding 250 4 strokes and 2 strokes now in the same class has made any difference to the results of amateur races?
Are there more 2 strokes in the class, are they winning? Or too early to tell.
I'm in Australia and we are watching closely as there is talk of ridding the parity rules here as well to boost entries in the class.

I haven't heard of anyone from the Whitney LLQ running them, but surely we will see quite a few people at the Spring National aboard the smoker.
The Shop
I heard from a source that the OEMs that are still producing 250cc 2strokes wanted the AMA to pass the law so they could move the rest of the strokers they have left outta the warehouses and that the rules WILL BE changed next year(2009).
I personally do not see the rule sticking around long.
All they have to do is stop making the 2 stroke all together and the rules won't matter. i don't think the rules will change unless you see a complete domination by the 2 strokes, which would be surprising. Was this track a sand track? if so that answers a lot of questions.
Be interesting to see if any of the big MX mags will run a shootout between all the 250's - 2 and 4 stroke and run them head to head and give an honest appraisal rather than the "best for the average rider..." blabber.
I'll post some results when he calls me.I won't be able to attend Whitney or Oak Hill.He will be traveling with a couple of other riders.Hopefully he'll get better results than he did in Gainesville.
The AMA is trying a back handed way to eliminate the 450's.
I am talking about the changes that made all the classes that used to be "450" (or Motocross) into 125-open classes.
Those that have been around the sport for a while have seen this before when the classes were made into 250/open classes back in the late 80's.
It sealed the fate of the 500's.
It basically makes the 450 class another unlimited/collegeboy class. While a very small number of riders may run it as a third class at some events it will actually siphon entries off of the existing "open" classes.
As 250F and two stroke riders start to ride this class and do well it will make the 450's obsolete except for large riders and/or vets.
Watch your local races that run by these rules and see if the number of 450 riders doesn't drop.
450 sales will soon follow.
Then the AMA will use this data to make their case to the OEMs to drop the 450 machines.
Come back in two years and tell me I was right.

My guess is Johnny Rocket on his factory 250f will get beat by Joey privateer on his 250t one to many times this year and the bitching will begin. Lets face it we all know who controls this sport both pro and amateur and I wouldn't be suprised to see the rules right back to where they were 250f and 450f.
Sand tracks, muddy tracks likely have a 2t slight advantage no one ever questioned that, but hard pack like we have around here 90% of the time is right up a 4 strokes proverbial alley. Not to mention I only know of like 5 guys that went out and bought smokers. LOL i talk to aroun 1500 riders yearly..... so far i haven't seen a big switch.
