The best sand rider in the world Jeffrey Herlings to Race Monster Energy Cup

AURORA, Ill. (September 26, 2012) – Feld Motor Sports® announced today that Red Bull KTM’s Jeffrey Herlings, of Elsendorp, Netherlands, will race in the second annual Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on October 20.

Once Herlings heard that there was going to be a "sand" option and no whoops to rag doll in, he decided to race.

In 2011 it became clear that Jeffrey was probably the best rider on sand competing at top international level and will be a real contender at the MXON.

“i love sand,” said Herlings. “And also, I love sand. So this is good for me.”

Born in Geldrop, Netherlands, Herlings is geared up to compete alongside the world’s top riders for this stand-alone event.

The 2012 Monster Energy Cup features an all-new track design inspired by five-time Supercross Class Champion Ricky Carmichael. The Carmichael-inspired track design will consist of supercross and motocross obstacles unlike any other racetrack design in the world. More than 200’ of the track will be built into the grandstands, and the riders exit the stadium and race through the Monster Energy Fan Zone outside of the stadium and through the pit area before they catapult back into the stadium. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse with the winner walking away with a $100,000 check, and any rider that wins all three Main Events will take home $1 million.

I see no mention of them leaving out the whoop section in the PR. That has to be a contributing factor also.

Yes. That's definitely the holdup... Feld is scared to ask him to race.

Why are American's so offended that Jeffrey is fast in sand? No other country seems to be as offended.

Honestly. I would like to see more riders come across the pond for an event like this. Like a SXON kind of thing. Would be cool for sure.

Just jokes bro. Dude is badass for sure. Was watching some of the videos posted yesterday and he kills it in the sand. I love how those tracks are built in the trees too. Would be crazy though if something went wrong.

You see only what you want to see. Many of us have said he hauls in the sand.
Why so thin skinned?
Lighten up Francis! (From the US movie "Stripes" )

Last year no "world championship riders" where there. Why not? Try to get CP377, Cairoli, Herlings, Desalle, Frossard, Paulin, Bobryshev, Tonus, Coulon,... Why don't I see those riders in such a great event? You make a hybrite track to level riders out but you don't fix those "second rated" riders from the WC so you can show them how good you guys are!

Who is offended? We have braved the non-stop barrage of "Herlings is gonna teach the arrogant Americans a lesson" quite nicely if you ask me. Now an American posts something that was designed to be funny and we're viewed as being offended? I think that sometimes our cultural differences are hard to overcome. One way or another, I cannot wait until 2012 MXoN is over. This thing brings out the worst in us for sure.

p.s. - No matter where you come from, hero worship of a 17 year old boy is downright sad. You call yourselves men?

LaughingLaughing That was pretty good.

Im as European as is possible, but jesus some of you "euros" need to give it a rest, your worse than stewart fanboys. The fact that some of you can turn any thread into a usa vs the world thread is really annoying.

Some Americans don't care about the world championship, they are perfectly within their rights not to give a shit about it, and nothing you say will change that, so give it a rest. You could argue about it for forever and a day.

You should have added "once he found out there was sand and wasn't any whoops to rag doll on, he decided to race"
