Helmet opinions

Im going to buy either a Bell Moto 8 or an AGV AX-8 and am looking for some info. I have no way of trying one on and I'm wondering how they fit and if the quality is comparable. Does anybody know about either of these?

That is the worst way in the world to buy a helmet. Fit is everything as no two head sizes and shapes are the same. GO and try on helmets not just the two you are thinking about try on 10 or 12 and dont try on a used one because it wont fit the same after someone else breaks it in.

Like I said in my post, trying one on is impossible. The nearest dealer that carries helmets is 2hours away and they don't carry these brands. I have more of an oval head shape so I'm trying to figure out which one is more suited.

Make the two hour trip and try on what they have, There has got to be a few dealers who have different brands or maybe I dont know how far a good sized town is from you. I will admit I am spoiled and can go down to Vickery and try on every major brand of MX helmet and they will have my size and color in stock but as I said fit is everything.

Zonker at least if you do get it mail order make sure you can return or exchange it if the fit is wrong, it may take a few times to get it right but there is nothing worse than not being able to send it back if its not gonna fit.

Each brand has different fit, if you can't try one on then find another brand.

If the helmet does't fit it doesn't matter the brand or how it was contructed.

a concussion will be around for more then the travel time to the dealer.

I know its not mentioned, but I love my moto 9. Magnet side pieces, easy snap in head piece, looks great, oncommonly super comfortable. My buddy has a new shoei and wishes he bought the Moto 9 instead.

+1 for the Moto 9. I've been wearing one for a year now and I still love it. Fit is great, quality is top notch, and love the innovation.

The moto 9's fit is much more comfortable and barely any movement. I have two Moto 8's but I wouldn't get another one knowing how better the Moto 9's are.

I also am a big fan of the Moto-9 - I also have the AGV AX-8 here and I don't think they are in the same class. Don't get me wrong the AGV is a good helmet but the Bell is really a nice unit.

LostBoy and Roscoe are right. Fit is everything with a helmet...and they can break in almost half a size, especially in the cheek pads. What fits you better will protect you better, and what may work for someone else may not work for you. Keep in mind that different models within the same brand fit differently as well. If you order one without trying it on, and it doesn't fit correctly, you're stuck waiting for even longer. If you want to plan to head up to that dealership, definitely give them a call first to see what they have in.

What kind of helmet are you using right now, and what do you like/dislike about it?

Since you are looking at mail order order both helmets in all of the sizes you think are applicable. try them on and return the ones you don't want. if none of them fit right, send them all back.

as long as you send the ones you don't want back, you are only out some shipping costs. much cheaper than driving multiple hours to a dealer that may or may not have what you are looking for

I wear an Arai and love it for the fit. I also have an oval (skinny) head. I've never tried a Moto-9, but I did try on a Moto 8, and it was the worst-fitting helmet I've ever had the distinct displeasure of putting on my head. I tried on a buddy's AGV and really liked it, however, so take those convoluted facts for whatever they're worth.

I have a 661 flight but there is a pressure point at the front. Either way, I ordered the AX-8 and I can return it if I have to. I've heard too many negative stories of the way the Moto 8 fits to try it.
