Why doesn't some enterprising agent figure out how to supply catastrophic supplemental insurance to racers of all levels. Use the mass numbers to achieve an acceptable rate on a group deal and make sure athletes are covered whenever they are participating in a motorcycle related activity. Would costs be prohibitive? I mean sure it is a high risk sport yet as supplemental it wouldn't be on the hook for the other big money diseases the customer may incur. It would pay for whatever your normal insurance doesn't pick up , with motocross that would probably be everything. Yet the insurance wouldn't assume the daily risk of just living......Would it be possible for say under a grand a year depending how much out of pocket you are willing to pay before insurance kicks in?
For example say you beak your leg and have to go to the hospital and have surgery. You'll get paid for the broken leg, the ambulance ride, the surgery, the hospital stay and anything else that might be included. You can end up getting thousands of dollars for getting hurt and since my primary insurance pretty much pays for everything as it is, I get to keep the extra money from the supplemental insurance. You basically get paid for getting hurt.
Personal responsibility is thrown out the window when the desicion comes back to bite them for their indescression. No insurance incredible debt, I just don't think fundraising and charity of other riders is an acceptable plan. Nor do I believe mandating insurance be required, I'm searching for a way to make the cost reasonable so the option is more desirable.
