I'm a cyclist in NZ and there's no way in hell you catch me with a heart rate monitor on for a race. Cadence speed distance and power yes, heart rate no way.

Im sure cadence, speed , distance and power would all be highly beneficial in a supercross race

Um ok? Doesn't change the fact that most of the riders on the gate wear a HRM. I Wear one while doing spin bike and have messed around with it in my riding as well. This summer I really plan on taking advantage of it.

These guys will be downloading the info after a race or session. Why would they not want HR info?

I think its a force field generator. To protect him from last lap block passes.

I'm sure your coach would agree.

I love all the smart azz answers.........the Gizmo photo is the best.

Seriously........there will be several riders wearing a device this year that measures forces that the rider undergoes throughout a race. It is an accelerometer of sorts. The Asterisk guys as well as several others are involved in this project. A good friend of mine has been working on this project so I am quite familiar with it. I will ask if CR22 is in fact participating.

Of course, it may well be that he simply wears an HRM.

What's he wearing for goggles? Just curious...all of his photographs this year have him in a black strap with no insignia. He was the only guy on the podium w/o them around his neck too. No sponsor?

BTW, what's he wearing on his head? It looks like some type of painted shell device. Any idea what it does? His lower legs and feet are covered too, what's up with that?

Since we are on this, you guys know of any cheap heart rate monitors? Chad's is 199.00 a bit rich for my blood, all I do is mountain bike and run.

I have a simple Garmin Forerunner I found on Amazon for $150. I use it for biking and running (not fully waterproof). It has gps, HRM, and gives your pace and HR instantly. The cool thing about Garmin devices is you upload the info to your account for analysis. It maps out your HR, elevation, speed (and more stuff) for the duration. You can see the high and low and at what point during the run/bike that happened. Say you run 3 miles. Then next time run the exact same 3 miles. You can compare side by side the data. Pretty cool stuff.
My main benefit is pace and HR. So when I go for long runs of 8 miles or more, I know where I should be. I can see if I need to speed up or slow down based on that data. I an also look at my current HR and adjust accordingly. It's upped my triathlon training big time.
