I have a buddy coming up to do some desert riding in Southern Utah and Mesquite, Nv. It is mostly pretty fast washes and open desert terrain, anyone have any idea how far he might be able to go on the stock tank?

Merry Christmas to all, and thanks in advance for your help.

I've gone in the 50 mile range on a stock tank with my 2011 trail riding in the mountains of Colorado. Fast washes and open terrain you probably won't get that mileage, but I'm pretty sure you could get in the 40 mile range.

depneds on the right hand.. Stock tanks and long rides at anything
higher than turtle speeds are not the best combo. Do you have to
compensate for altitude? Mapping change? Lots to consider if you
plan on a very long ride, which i am sure u are aware. Sounds like a
bitch'n time tho!!

It'll depend on how fast your riding....I wouldn't gamble past 40 miles, though.

If you have any storage capacity (back pack, fannie pack, fender bags) at all...before I got my 3.2 gallon tank...I'd always throw a 32 ounce Gatorade/powerade bottle full of gas in my back pack...just in case (if it doesn't get you back to the truck, it will certainly get you to a place where you can bring the truck to him-which is much easier than trying to push it).

Depends on his mapping. The 2012 CRF450 stock mapping is ridiculously lean and sips fuel very slowly. If it is re-mapped it is likely considerably richer than stock. Like others have said, I would go easy on the throttle and not try to push past 40 miles.

Thanks guys, we have a 47 mile loop down in Mesquite that has me concerned. There is one wash that is wide open for about 10 miles, part of the 47 mile loop we do, this is the one that has me concerned. There will be a WR 450, and KTM 525 along as well, I think we should be able to get him to the end.

I was just hoping it wasn't like 30 miles or something. To my knowledge he hasn't re-mapped anything, he rides Cahuilla and Pala quite a bit and really digs the EFI when he comes up here to race the Powder Mountain Motocross.
