Chest Protector Size Help Needed!!!

Hi,

As a kid I was really into dirt bikes. So right now I'm starting to get my kids into it (Christmas). Anyway my son is really difficult to fit I believe. He is 4' 8", 140 lbs. His chest measurement is 42.5", his waist is 41", and his gut is 43.5" lol. Any idea what relatively inexpensive size/type chest protector I should be looking at? I would like to order online. Any help at all will be really appreciated!! Smile

I ordered this combo for him, because it looked like a really good deal. Got the pants, jersey, helmet, boots, and gloves for 196 shipped. Another family member is getting him knee and elbow guards.

Check out cyclegear.com They have their in house brand "Bilt" That is inexpensive. I have one of their roost guards that is the exact same thing as the fox roost guard but instead of $129 it's only $60. Here's the link http://www.cyclegear.com/BILT-Immortal-BC-Roost-Guard?utm_source=google…

1- Do you lift?
2- Do you bench press?
3- Do you touch your chest with the barbell?
4- If you answered 'Yes' to all the above, you don't even need a chest protector, you're jacked!

Has anyone ever fitted someone this size for a chest protector? I'm mostly concerned about sizing. Thanks.

In all reality, your kids an awkward size. He will need a size large, but you may want to go around to a few motorcycle shops to try a few on. A large might be too long for him.

I'm 6' 210 lbs and wear a something like this in the size L/XL. It fits me good but I think if I were 2' shorter, I'd have a hard time with it riding up while sitting on the seat.

That BILT brand is the number one reason I quit shopping at Cycle Gear. I used to like going in there and would drop the extra money on buying in store because they carried a good variety of reliable riding gear. They started carrying the BILT shit and their whole store is littered with it. You have to trip and claw your way past that crap to get to the better gear and they carry a tiny selection of the better gear anymore. Rocky Mountain picked up the rest of what I was spending at Cycle Gear.

the fort worth cycle gear is the worst one I have ever been too. I like the store cause I move around a lot but there is always a cycle gear and they all stock the same stuff. I will not ever go to the fort worth store again its always a mess.

I'm not a huge fan of cycle gear at all even though I have a buddy that works there. They are my last resort shop but when they came out with that roost guard for $50 at the time I jumped all over it. I didn't want to spend $120+ on the fox guard that is almost identical.

ok so is the fox roost guard/bilt roost guard the best option? or should I also look at the fox r3? or thor quadrant? thanks.

I'd say take the options we've thrown out along with the Thor quadrant and Fox R3 and find a shop that carries them. Take your son and have him try them all on to see what fits and what is most comfortable. That's how I would make the decision.

Take him to a shop and try some on! Then go back another day to get it if it needs to be a big surprise.


It's all personal preference for inside or outside the jersey. Most either way.
