This isn;t a thread to bash a rider, but does anyone have ay idea who number 501 was in the 450 class? He started the heat and main and rode one extremely slow like rolling everything, he nearly got lapped on his first lap in the heat race but he pulled in to the mechanics area to get out of the way. Then in the LCQ he got to the finish line on the first lap but stopped on the downside of the take off because the pack caught him on the first lap. Just wondering how come he was out there?
This rider was by far slower than any rider I have ever seen on a SX track as he could barely roll everything.
Anyone know the story?
It has to be a make a wish thing or something.

Nerd, you had to have saw this guy... This was NOT a Damon Smith thing, this guy rolled everything.
If Feld and the AMA is going to let people out there like this then I want in. My career ended unexpectantly on the start of the 125 main In Salt Lake in 2001. I never had a chance to say goodbye to my fans and would like to take the opportunity to roll around and wave goodbye.

but you have to start the LCQ as well? He was caught in a crappy position.
I guess maybe because he didn't get a full lap in the heat race he went out in the LCQ. It was kind of a race within a race for him to get to the finish line.
Like I said above, I am not bashing the guy just wondering what the heck....
Smith probably makes more money than most Pros, and team managers too.
The one thing he has that trumps all is he has a good job, non industry. That makes everyone hate him right there.
In an instance like that, if you qualify you should be locked in and not forced to do the lap. Not sure about the rule, but injury should cover any doubt and allow a rider to not have to make one lap.
It got sketchy there for a minute, but to get the check you got to to what you got to do!
Sorry about the injury #501. Hopefully you can heal up and show 'em what you got
Pit Row
the question was answered.
I think the poor guy was put into a crappy situation having to start and finish a lap.
