Hi! I've been a member for a while and have been lurking forever, but I'm pretty sure this is my first post. I picked up a clean, original 1990 CR500 a couple years ago (original plastic, bars, tires, etc, but some light wear/signs of use). I immediately threw all of the original stuff in a box and tossed some UFO plastic on it and rode it for a season, raced a couple local VMX races, etc with it last year.

Over the winter, I decided to tear it down and go through it, freshen it up, and make a few upgrades without totally losing that 1990 look and appeal of the bike. We powder coated the frame and some small parts, restored the tank, rebearinged everything, etc.

It's not totally done. I'd like to replace the clutch and ignition cover, find some gold rims, and upgrade to Showa Twin Chambers over the next year or so. But I'm pretty happy with it this far. Planning on having the bike on display at the Indy SX, racing a couple local VMX races, and probably race it at Vintage Days this year.

Anywho, pics...

Very nice! How do you like the gnarley pipe? I had a CPI but it hit like mike Tyson in the mid and pulled high into top. No bottom end though.

I like it. Pulls pretty cleanly and consistently from down low with a strong midrange and a good enough top end for mortals. But I just added a 13 ounce flywheel weight so I’ll be seeing how it feels with that setup. I’d like to try a Fatty on it eventually.
