Malcolm Stewart was a revelation in 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross–he captured his maiden 450SX win and returned to the podium for the first time since 2022. Now, with his career rejuvenated, he looks ahead to the 2025 Pro Motocross series and an opportunity to build on all that he learned last year.
Following a second place at supercross' season finale, Stewart faced the media to discuss his season and how he narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the final championship standings. Four points separated him from the rider who stole that position, Justin Cooper.
Press Conference: You were riding with absolute fire in this performance. You are good at elevation and in these conditions, but it seemed more than that.
Malcolm Stewart: It was awesome. The fans in Denver and Salt Lake City over the last two weeks were hyping me up. When I got into second place, there was a moment when I could not hear my motorcycle and it gave me some flashbacks to 2022. It was a great race, other than that, and we did the best we could. I am glad to end this with a second.
You and Justin Cooper found a lot of form at the end of the season. That put you in an awkward position in the championship battle, affecting points. What was it like balancing having a teammate in the championship fight while also having some of the best results of your career?
It was awesome to be in that battle. I felt that Justin Cooper had mixed feelings last weekend when he was fast enough to get second but, at the end of the day, you do not want to pass your teammate and hurt the championship. I learned from my mistake last weekend and said, "I know he is not going to pass him straight up." Once I got around him, he decided he had to go. We did our best–I am glad we are being talked about. Sometimes you feel like you get under the table and nobody talks about you. For us to be up here and have a fighting chance for third overall is awesome.
Last year was a rebuilding year, and this one has been exceptional. How much of a boost is it to end the year on the podium?
Last year, I felt we were on a massive rollercoaster coming off the knee injury. I just had to get better and better, and I was overthinking things. Sometimes that happens where you have expectations thinking you are going to be up there, and you are humbled quickly. I got humbled at Anaheim 1 this year. It kicked it off pretty hard–then it was about moving forward. I felt Tampa was when I turned it around by getting my first win. Everyone says getting your first win is an eye opener. If you can do it once, you can do it again. I have tried to do everything I could to get back up here. It is good to finish this final race on the podium, and now we will take it outdoors and have fun with that. Hopefully, the whole group of guys will be back outdoors. It will be fun.
