Cooper Webb on: Battling Ken Roczen, Daytona | Interview

Cooper Webb's run of 450SX wins ended at two; he failed to hunt Ken Roczen down at the Daytona International Speedway and had to settle for the runner-up position. Nonetheless, he doubled his championship lead and is 10 points clear of Chase Sexton as the ninth round of 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross beckons. 

Daytona marked Webb's 69th 450SX podium in what was his 130th attempt. Following the event, he tackled a handful of points of interest in the post-race press conference. The storied history between him and Roczen was, unsurprisingly, a popular topic.

Press Conference: Can you take us through how your evening went? You did not have the greatest start in the heat race – you saw Chase [Sexton] down and worked your way up – and then talk about how the main event went for you.

Cooper Webb: The heat was not good – falling in the first turn is never good. It is a bit of a panic when you are in that position, but then I saw Chase down and started to think a little. I got a great start in the main and put myself in an awesome position. It was a good race and I made a charge. I made some mistakes at the end but, overall, it was another P2 and a solid night for points. We will take it.

I heard you lost your cell phone earlier. That is one little thing you have to deal with. How do you regroup and still do what you have to?

That's nothing. You can always buy a new phone. 

Taking your finish out, how much fun was that race?

It was fun. There was a lot going on, especially in the beginning. We were freight training and, like Ken [Roczen] said, if you made one mistake early it bit you hard. It is an awesome racetrack. You are always searching for lines, changing and making mistakes. You nail something on one lap though and you are back in it. I hate losing but I am sure I will look at it on Monday and be like, "That was a sweet race." When you look at the big picture, it was fun. It is always nice to be up here and race hard. 

We have seen this situation with you and Ken a bunch of times – it usually goes a different way. What was different tonight?

He was on it. He passed me. I was ahead of him and he got around me. He then made a quick pass on Aaron [Plessinger] and kind of sprinted away. I got some good laps and was inching up, but he was riding solid laps. It pushed me to ride harder and I made some mistakes, which allowed the gap. He won straight up. Most of the time it has gone the other way, but it was a great race overall.
