With the season winding down, there was big news in both classes at the Monster Energy Supercross in Detroit this last weekend.
First up was a hard crash that L&M Racing / San Manuel Band of Mission Indians / Yamaha’s Chad Reed suffered during practice. It left him with a fractured shoulder blade, and coughing up blood. After spending the afternoon in the hospital, he returned to the track and used a provisional to make it to the main event. Once there, he had a first turn crash, but fought to the end for a 12th-place finish.
While that drama was playing out, Honda Red Bull Racing’s Davi Millsaps mastered the tough track, and took his second win of the season ahead of Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Timmy Ferry, and Kevin Windham.
Chad’s points lead has now been reduced to 16 over Windham, with only St. Louis, Seattle, Las Vegas, and probably a whole lot of visits to physical therapy between now and the end of the season.
The other big news was that after Saturday night’s by Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, and a crash and 10th-place finish for Torco Racing Fuels Honda’s Trey Canard, Trey now has a mere three points over Villopoto heading into the final round of the Lites East series in St. Louis. It’ll be extremely interesting to see how that plays out next weekend.
