2021 Motocross Of Nations | Teams, Numbers, and Prep

As with a lot of large international events over the last two years, there has been a fog of uncertainty clouding the 74th running of the Motocross of Nations scheduled September 24-26, 2021 in Mantova, Italy. Pertaining to our home country’s involvement, the US has decide to opt out of this year’s MXoN. 

An AMA press release states: “A number of issues have contributed to the logistical difficulty of attending the 2021 Motocross of Nations, on both an individual and team level, and these have been exacerbated greatly by current and expected COVID-19 mitigation efforts surrounding the event,” said AMA Director of Racing Mike Pelletier. “Due to the sizeable financial risk faced by all the team stakeholders, and the unknowns in play here, we came to the unanimous conclusion that suspending our participation was the responsible decision.”

We know, bummer right? Yet even though we don’t have skin in the game, as part of the international motocross community we can still enjoy watching the “olympics of motocross” as the world comes together to see who’s the fastest country on a moto track. 

Notable Omissions

Other than Team USA, there are a few other teams and racers that are opting out as well. 

Team Australia - “MXoN is to be held on September 25 and 26, in Italy, however with border restrictions, stringent international travel restrictions which require special exemptions, vaccine and quarantine requirements in Italy and Australia, vaccine passports as well as contractual commitments of candidates and their teams, it is not possible to send a team.” - Motorcycling Australia Press Release
