hi, I just got a 1997 CR125r from my uncle who hasn't started it in 3 years. well I threw some 50:1 in it and it started up in less than 10 kicks. So since its a nice 30 degree day out in Wisconsin and most of the snows gone, i thought i would put around for 5 min.

SO HERES THE PROBLEM....ill be in first and give er the gas and the rpm's go up, so then i throw it into second, but the rpms stay the same, and i dont gain much speed.....so i put it into 3rd, and the rpms stay the same, and i still dont gain much speed......so i put it in 4th, same thing, little faster, same rpms.......so i let off the gas, the the rpms DROP way down...

Is it a compression problem, because it does kick very easy.

Your clutch is shot , or the clutch cable does not have any freeplay . You should be able to put a nickel between the lever and perch.

Definitely check the clutch. It might also need a new top-end and carb clean since it's so old. Good luck!

On wet clutches it isn't unusual that the clutch plates stick together when sitting like your bike. It soumds like you need to pull the clutch, clean the plates and you could possibly reuse them. If the clutch will engage and disengage your set if they don't I would replace them along with the clutch springs. While you have it down inspect the clutch basket for notching.

( CR 125 Won't run rite.) This is a common problem with most Honda products and the solution is to buy a Yamaha.

Before you mount the new cables up use a cable luber on them it does really help make them operate smoother.
