Wow, a Stealth B2 bomber takes off from Palmdale. The belly looks like the underside of a Stingray! 😲

Just goes to show the genius of John Northrop, 77 years ago, when he came up with this design!
This is from the very first post from my Historic Aircraft thread.
Anyone like "used cars"? 🤣😂

Interesting topic!
Colleague of mine was killed in the Flying Wing crash at Chino a few years ago. Lost an engine, VMC-rolled over and augered in upside down.
Flying Wing aerodynamics are the equivalent of inbred genes.
Re. "merging with a larger company like Consolidated". Just as well he didn't, because Consolidated became Convair, which was liquidated in 1996 after several corporate mergers and stripping of assets. The B2 probably wouldn't exist today if he had sold Northrop.
Interesting how German and American engineers developed the same technology at the same time, eh? During WW2.
From what I know, the flying wings were/ are totally longitudinally unstable, the only reason the B-2 flies is because its fly-by-wire computers make millions of micro-adjustments to keep it under control. Same as the F-117.
Shitty job, flying the B-2. One of the last FOs I flew with was a B2 pilot, he told me stories. Their missions are fatigue marathons. 36 hours plus, numerous air-to-air refuellings, hopped up on amphetamines, pissing in self-contained "cat boxes", shitting in a bucket and taking naps on the floor behind the seats, eating microwave burritos..... and responsible for a $2 BILLION piece of equipment. That's before the shooting starts. 🤣
It ain't as glamorous as TV wants you to believe.... believe me 🤣

I've always loved the song by Otis Redding--Sitting by the Dock of the Bay. I did not know he died like this. Just once again proves like my dear Wife Jan and Best friend Don that the Good die Young...... 😢
In June 1967, Otis Redding closed the Saturday night of the Monterey Pop Festival and turned a crowd of mostly white rock fans into believers. He was 25, already a major soul artist, and on the edge of something much bigger.
A few weeks later, staying on a houseboat at Waldo Point in Sausalito, California, he sat with an acoustic guitar and wrote the first verse of a song about watching the tide come in and go out again.
It didn't sound like anything he'd released. Slower, sadder, with seagulls on it.
People at his label, Stax, weren't sure about it. It wasn't what Otis Redding records sounded like.
He recorded the main take on November 22, 1967, and went back on December 7 for the final overdubs, including the whistling at the end. He hadn't written a proper closing verse, so he whistled through the gap intending to fix it later.
Three days later, on December 10, he and five of the Bar-Kays got into his twin-engine Beechcraft H18 to fly from Cleveland to Madison, Wisconsin, for two shows that night at a club called The Factory.
Bassist James Alexander took a commercial flight instead, because there wasn't room.
The weather was bad, rain and fog. At 3:28 p.m., about 4 miles short of the runway, the plane went into Lake Monona.
Seven of the eight aboard were k*lled. Otis Redding was 26. So was the pilot, Richard Fraser. The Bar-Kays who d*ed were teenagers: Phalon Jones, 19, Ronnie Caldwell, 19, Carl Cunningham, 18, and Jimmy King, 18.
Redding's valet Matthew Kelly was 17.
The only survivor was trumpet player Ben Cauley, 20, sitting directly behind Redding. He had fallen asleep holding his seat cushion.
He woke with the sensation of the plane spinning, reached down and unbuckled his seatbelt without knowing why, and was thrown clear into the water. He couldn't swim. He held on to the cushion until rescuers reached him.
He said he could hear Carl Cunningham, the 18-year-old drummer, calling for help in the water, and couldn't get to him.
The cause of the crash was never conclusively determined.
Stax released "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" on January 8, 1968, unfinished whistling and all.
On March 16 it went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there 5 weeks. It was the first posthumous number one single in American chart history, and the only number one Otis Redding ever had.
Ben Cauley kept playing for the rest of his life. In 2007, on the 40th anniversary, he came back to Madison for the first time and sang it by the lake.
This hill climber dude got his ass chewed up by his own motorcycle, could have been a lot worse! 😳

Shot that Captured World Wide attention!!!! 26 years ago, Florida Keys Marathon 7 mile bridge. Started as a Dream. Imagine hiring a random helicopter and pilot out of Miami, putting a camera man in the passenger seat, having the nerves to go deep into the florida keys to conquer the 7 mile bridge. Then if completed getting back out of the Florida keys. To think in Ohio this was actually a great idea. We didn’t get caught or get in trouble but we did get escorted all the way back out of the Keys by a police squad. Merry Clayton talks about how she was pregnant, getting ready for bed when the Rolling Stones called and asked her to sing the famous lyric to Give Me Shelter. It made the song and made her.....
Damn she had some pipes, unfortunately she put so much into it that she had a miscarriage the next day.

About that same time, there was a group around here doing that stuff.
One guy tried to wheelie from Dallas to Waco. It's about 90 miles, give or take.
He jabbed at a New York club that used to film wheelying in NYC.
The guy said, "You guys do blocks, we do counties." 🤣
Some more hill climb madness, these dudes are nuts. I love how they just destroy their bikes! 🤣

😂 Right?
Ya know, I have never been a listener/fan of the Rolling Stones but your post peaked my interest so I listened to the link...
...never knew the exact lyrics of this song and I admit, I thought they were singing something entirely different...
...I don't pay a lot of attention to song lyrics...
...well, after watching the clip you posted with Merry and Mick, I went to youtube to listen to her part...
...dang, she has quite the voice... ...and when her voice cracks (twice) when she is solo'ing the chorus line...
...well, it really is something... ...thanks for sharing that GMan.
