My sister's stayed at the Days Inn and someone broke into there room and snatched their purse while they were sleeping. They had a 3 year old and 10 year old in the room with them.

Crazy stuff..

How does that happen, theft while in the room?
Apparently my brother in law got up to go get a soda and forgot to deadbolt the door when he returned. Someone slipped in while they were asleep and snagged the purse.

Apparently what we are seeing in that video (according to the APD) is a gang ritual. They steal and then get new members to prove themself by flauting in public what has been stolen and a chaser car follows to watch and provide backup...freakin great.
I asked my trainer to step back and lets see what the police will do. As much as I want Joeys things back, life is more important. Have some great guys in our district that are putting togethjer a fundraiser for him and I would hope the MX community will do the same in the areas of the other riders affected.
Thanks to all who helped and commented.

this is really sick, let's all do our part and help a good man get his bikes back, these guys have probably been in the loose for years now, robbing people...I have already posted these on my facebook and realmotocross account, van and bikes are too huge to remain unnoticed, someone must have seen them.

The sad part is people are afraid to speak up, and do' nt wan to get involved,, they will have to go to court to testify, lose work money , gas money to court, parking etc!

First, sorry to hear about the theft. Hope the theives get whats coming to them. Second, I went to Atl last year for the race, I have done promotional events at the GA dome many times for work. The police, hotels and even the people acted like the supercross was a second rate circus. I have determined that I will never spend my $ to vist the city again. I had a "exibit" at the GA dome for a black college "classic" football game and security was TIGHT to say the least. I don't understand why the super/motocross comunity shouldn't deserve the same treatment. In retrospect, the city wants your money with as little effort and expense posible for them. I will boycott atlanta always. Butthole of the southeast.

Im not sure how the insurance will work as they were in the trainers trailer. It was parked in a good spot right in front of the hotel in their "secure" parking lot (it was an inside job for sure)....you guys think im a bitch on here. That Hotel and the nasty woman at the front desk will wish they never ever heard my name....I have the resources to make this their worst nightmare...maybe it will help us all in the end at any other events.
There was NO WAY it wasnt noticed being taken. Ive already started the process of getting any security videos from the hotel and street lights in the vicinity
You should also try nearby banks.....

Im with you matt...although it probably wouldnt have been for the best... it would have been my initial reaction. He couldnt get the bike because the white car you see in front is the "blocker" car. He did the right thing got the license plate and then stopped the first cop he saw...and they didnt care.
Tomorrow morning I will call the Georgia Burea of Investigation and see if they wil take over.
Sorry to hear about all the stuff stolen.

In regards to the truck and bike and the cops not caring, sometimes to fight and win against scumbags you have to break a couple rules. guarantee you call the cops and tell them you saw them brandishing a firearm ( because to the best of your ability thats what you saw ). They will have a hole dept up they're ass. and when they find out they have all the stolen stuff, probably drugs, warrants. They won't just get to roll. Cops don't really like scumbags.

To anybody with bikes and equipment, you've got to cover your ass at all times. Don't be the one thats easy pickens, be the one thats a pain in the ass, so they go down the road and get the easy pickens. These kind of criminals aren't the smartest they're just real good at taking advantage of folks that leave the door open. That won't help for this time, but will for the next time.

Terry K had some great ideas. Love the baby monitors. also consider, Remove the battery from the van and put it in the trailer in a card board box, wheel locks on the trailer, Pay a little extra for hotels with security or in closed/ metered parking.

Take a few extra minutes and a few bucks can be your best insurance policy. Good luck.

Sucks for sure, but i hate to say, a stolen van and dirt bikes are low on the priority list in a high crime area! I work in law enforcement and see the frustration , but when you have robberies and murders, the theft report will be the last to be taken care of! I don t agree with telling the police you saw a gun, beacause, thats a false report and either the police or citizens can be injured just getting to the scene! Sucks for sure like was said have your shit insured and lock it up as best as you can, pay a little bit extra and stay somewhere away from the city!

My girlfriend had both her street bikes stolen and I know a lot of people that have had their dirt bikes stolen. Arizona is horrible for that and the police just say there is nothing they can do...but there are more important things that they have to do I guess

Most police dept s now have a no chase policy, they will take a report and if they find it , a recovery report!

I bet the other vehicle was stolen, or the tags don t belong on it!, And the shithead that was on camera is like a cock roach, unless they have previous mug shots! It will be hard to find him, but criminials are dickheads and they will steal again and sooner or later get caught or get hit by a car and save us all the BS of paying for them in jail! that shit pissess me off to no end!

Last year a few days after my van was stolen in atlanta a video was posted on that ajc site and
It showed my van with my tag and mx stickers all seen very clearly in the video. it showed thugs
Get out and steal an atm with my van. They never got caught and it took over a month
for them to find my van burned. my van had black 20s on it and mx stickers all over
The back windows. Could have been spotted easily.

So far nothing new...they know where the truck is parked that had the bike in it, but will not go look. Response is..."we are undermaned and more concerned about bodies on the ground" ( I must admit ive had thoughts of making that job a little busier for them also) .
Now that I am home will make the time and effort to go after Days Inn civilly. Ive already recieved a response from Days Inn Corporate throwing the specific hotel "under the bus". I will proceed from there and also include both Days Inn Corporate and Wyndham Properties.
I actually met Jared Hicks in Daytona (he lost his 2 bikes another friends bike and all of his gear, etc). He is what MX is all about. He was there on a borrowed bike , someone gave him new pants and boots, and a black long sleeved shirt with "Daytona Bike Week 2011" on the front and his name and number airbrushed on the back. He was so polite and nice it was amazing considering his situation. I will do my best to help him too.

I've been following this thread hoping for the best. I was in a similar situation over the summer, except I wasn't in a major city like Atlanta only Atlantic City. Here's what I figured out. The police are very limited on what they can actually do in these cases. They need warrants to look inside buildings and they can't get a warrant without probable cause. Nor can they spend all of their time trying to locate the scum responsible, remember the same police force deals with theft daily, and that's low on their priority list.

I did all of the detective work, and it was probably pretty stupid of me but it worked out. I went to the streets and talked to people I shouldn't have been around. But I made some good contacts, and posting up a reward money gets people talking, and more importantly ratting.

I don't know if this method would work in a major city like ATL, and it looks like you are dealing with gang members, much like I was except Atlantic City gangs aren't as deadly as ATL gangs.

I learned a lot about criminal activity in gangs. It is very organized. The goods are moved frequently if they know people are looking. The guy that stole it definitely doesn't have it any more he was a gopher. There is a very high chance they moved the bikes(and van for that matter) out of the city and on to a different city their specific gang is affiliated with.

What ultimately got my bike back to me was all the heat I had on it. Money talks in these neighborhoods and people will rat out who has it. I had people in the hood looking for the bike and offers to steal it back from the people that have it. Finally I got a contacted by the guy with possession of it currently. He gave me a bogus story, he bought it was $800, whatever I don't care. I'm pretty sure he was also a gopher and was told to get rid of the bike so people stop poking around their shit looking for it. Stolen property is a low level item, they don't want people digging around and uncovering the real money makers they have going on.

Good luck, be safe about it. Remember you probably would have sold these bikes in another year or two anyway so don't do anything you'll regret longer than that.
