has been slow to respond to - the 450 is more reliable but seriously you could buy a KTM
for less and have more performance. The DRZ is a fun bike below 70 mph, around town and tight twisties , if you need a bike with some higher speed capabilities look at the
bigger KTMs' , more $$ also though...

Supermotos, or at least the type a guy into MX would like (low weight, decent power, superflickable) are not highway machines. Don't expect to be doing any touring or long distance road trips with them. You can buy machines that do OK on the highway like the KTM Duke, but they're much heavier than the type of bike you're used to.
The big question is are you OK with a crazy maintenance schedule. To ride a MX like bike (CRF, KTM530, Aprilia) on the street requires a silly amount of maintenance. The bikes that don't require a ton of wrench spinning typically aren't as much of a kick in the pants (DRZ, KTM Duke, etc)
I have plates for my CRF450R and it's the funnest thing you can ride on the street. Bombing through urban areas, or finding an empty industrial park you can turn into a weekend practice track with a bunch of buddies is killer fun.
The Aprilia 550 seems to have the bugs sorted out in the '08 model. I'd still wait another year until they can tweak it a little more. It's the best HP to weight ratio in the class, but if you took a KTM 530 and tarded it out you'd wind with something very similar. About 10HP down, but a bunch lighter.
