NATIONAL CHAMPS SHOULD USE #1 PLATE

People who watch Moto on TV or go to races identify with #1 plates not some other number. When I was a kid and looked at factory bikes with #1 plates it was a humbling experience.

I agree. It adds an extra something to the series. It kind of says "I'm the champ, if you want this number one plate you are gonna have to take it". That's just MHO.

I also agree about people identifying with the number.

i agree but due to $$$$ corrupting the sport, folks want to run their permanent number for merchandising reasons... heck RC should have just mechandised the #1 plate! but yes the Champ should have to run the #1 plate... this isnt nascar ( well even though its owned by nascar...lol...)

Off the top of my head I can't really think of another sport where the champions are identified while racing. I agree it has some prestige, but it really is irrelevant in the grand scheme. If you could make 100k or more off of your number would you give it up to run the #1 plate? I know money isn't everything, but these guys do have short careers.

The red plate isn't a new idea though. How long did they run the blue/yellow Camel plate back in SX's good ole day.

I totally agree with you on this. I think everyone should run the #'s they earn from what place they got. No AMA # that they just stick with. It's like the riders have sold out to the man

Red, Blue/Yellow, both are fine. It makes the champ easily identifiable, it adds a uniqueness to our sport, and the guy can run whatever number he wants.
