What was your recovery like?

How long were you off the bike?

What was your PT like? Was it tailored to get you back in shape for moto?

I'm 3 weeks out from surgery. Dam that first week was complete shit. ๐Ÿ˜†

Any cheat codes would be greatly appreciated ๐Ÿ™

There are many threads on here regarding hip replacement surgeries, many started by me as well as others. Covering all of the basics and different types of surgeries. Most have had good results witha few horror stories. Do a search and some research.

Had hip replacement 5 years ago, at 49 years old. Best decision I ever made.  Never had any PT - I met with the PT in the hospital for 10 minutes 2 hours after surgery.  He got me up walking down the hall way twice and said I was good to go.  Told me to take it easy and a list of things not to do.  I took 6 months off the bike before getting back on the bike.  My recovery was super easy.  Was able to lightly jog after 1 week - although NOT recommended (I only did it to see if I could do it).  I was doing very light body weight squats and walking 2-3 miles daily. At the 2 week mark, my doctor scolded me for doing too much although all was still good with no issues.  He wanted me to back it down.  So I was put on a strict regimen of only walking and no more than 2.5 miles per day.  Then after the 6 week mark, I got cleared to do very light pilates and exercises.  Was mostly focused on light body weight squats and heal slides.  One exercise I started the evening I got home that I like was doing heal slides (is ok to do these during the first 6 weeks I was told).  That was very helpful to loosen up my hip flexor.  My flexor was pretty sore for ~4-5 months, but it eventually got better.  Walking is the best thing you can do from my experience.  Then start doing body weight squats (you should NEVER do weighted squats ever again).  I was doing 500-1000 body weight squats a day at the 2 month mark.  Still walking 2-3 ,miles 4-5 times a week.

One good piece of advise was, my doctor told me if I did too much my hip soreness would tell me it was too much.  That was a good gauge for me.

You need to build up scar tissue around the joint because that keeps the hip in the socket after the surgery and strength training builds up scar tissue.  It also strengthens everything around the joint.  I've crashed hard several times since with the new hip and have had 2 different surgeries since getting my hip done and my hip held up great.

Right now until you get to 6 weeks, just keep walking daily.  Strange that I never got any physical therapy script to get PT and I had my hip done at the Mayo clinic.  But all has been great, fantastic to be honest.

Both hips done 3 months apart, in 2012 & '13.  Icing and walking are both important the first several weeks.

Easiest surgical recoveries of my 18.

My biggest mistake was being in denial and putting it off way too long.  Even though I was doing yoga, stretches, etc, I lost a lot of my physical conditioning from slowing down for so long before getting them replaced.

Great stuff. Thank you guys for the input. I've been going to PT twice a week then doing my own PT in the gym 4 days a week. I'm at day 21 out from surgery.. No weighted squats. Stationary bike for a few miles then quad stretches etc. My hip flexors are tight AF. I can barely lift my leg into my truck so i use a strap. It's gotta look bizarre to anybody watching. I got an ice machine which I use a few times during the day. Im off all pain meds so that's nice.
