Hi,
I wanted to share the build of my 1997 yamaha WR 250. It is road regsitered here in France. I am planning to ride it in vintage MX and enduro races.
Here are some pictures of the starting point wich looked like a decent bike from far away. After the first test ride i realized that a lot of what has been done was not to my liking so i had the idea of what this bike needed. 
I décided to start by rebuilding the brakes and the wheels, Check the cylinder, powervalves etc…
For the brakes i replaced pistons and seals on each caliper and cerakote coated it. I also ordered a new front master cylinder and new hoses.

I also striped the swingarm and brushed it and added a Carbon chain guide.

So, hidden disasters, or, personal set up desires?
What are those 2 welded in tubes in the LH chain side swingarms?
I assume they are / were Sidestand mounts on the arm, while noting the side stand it has fitted, seems to conventionally mounted to the frame.
Nice bike, I love the 97 YZs. Those Yamaha Motor France graphics are really nice. I'd love a kit for my 02 wr250f. Who made them?
How about the suspension, do you like it as it is?
I removed two of the largest shims in the fork compression valve, became much better on rocks and roots and still not too soft.
Yes it is for the original side stand but i prefer to run a bit up to date model. There was some hidden problems like a badly welded case and the shock body was completly scored. I found some proper cases and a shock body from a 99 model.
I don’t know why made them but they are really hard to find now so i will keep it for sure. They can be replicated I think.
The suspension was ok but on the soft side for my liking. I sent it to my local suspension to do a complète overhaul and revalve.

I love Japanese enduro bikes from the '80s and '90s, both the OEM enduros (KDX, WR, RMX, etc.) and those modified for enduro by small builders.
There's an incredible following for classic enduro in France; I often go to watch races of the French Classic Enduro Championship.
I'll keep an eye on your build!✌️
