I want to get a mx bike but not to sure what to get. Im 29 years old and want to start riding before I get to old. I used to ride back about 8 yrs ago but would still consider myself a complete beginner. I rode mostly trails and some track, but now I want to ride mostly track and a few trails. I know very very little about bikes, as far as maintence and such but I want to learn and have a few distant friends that know quite a bit that can help.

Im about 5'10 and 200lbs so im a little heavy for my height but im losing weight. I dont want a brand new bike, but not any older than a 2005ish. I think I want a four stroke but Im not real sure thats what I need to know. Brand, Model, year, etc.

This is my first post and look forward to chatting with you guys. Thanks

Also, I dont want to spend a whole lot on a bike, prob about $2000 if thats possible, but im not sure so feel free to let me know or ask anything I may have left out.

Any brand is going to be about the same as the other...

With your weight, I'd recommend a 450 - or if you can find, a decent 250 (2 stroke).

The 450 will be easier to ride, but at the $2,000 price range, you might find some with issues.... 250 2 strokes are definitely easier to maintain, but you have to ride them harder.

Last year, I bought a 2007 CRF450 and had to drive 8 hours for it...I picked it up for $3,200.

Good luck and have fun!

You should look at the crf450r depending on the area you are looking in. you can probably pick on up for a little over 2000. It will be easier to ride the 250 2 stroke.

250 two stroke = MUCH harder to ride if you are a beginner but..MUCH easier for maintenance. They also cost less to maintain IMO.

I would say a 250 2t or a 450 4t. You could probably get away with a 250 4t but, in the long run, I don't think it would be enough for you given your "dimensions"

i'd prolly go with a 250 2 stoke, maintenance is much more simple on two's. they are harder to ride, and can be un-predictable but just respect it and take time to learn how the power is delivered. i switched from a 250 4 to a 125 2 and will never go back to four strokes. good luck dude and have fun
