This is for the "newmann" and "R-acer" types in here that buy this kinda stuff...
When you go a spend a bunch of money to make your bike Lighter; but, then you go and add an Over-Sized Front-Brake kit...and you put some of the weight RIGHT BACK ON THE BIKE...at the Worst possible place...
Well, what would it be worth to have a really "light-weight" Over-sized frt rotor/brake kit?
I'm looking into this and thinking out-loud about the market for this kind of thing.
I've already proven that saving as much "un-sprung" weight as possible is the Best Money you can spend on a race-bike (From a Ti fastener perspective).
So, it really chap's my ass to bolt these bitchin' HUGE rotors on the frt of the bike after I've gone thru the task af removing all the weight that I can find.
For the record: Many of your Moto-Heroes HAVE to see a HUGE frt-rotor on their bike...

And what would what you would like to offer weigh ?
the spacer for the calipur might add 4 or 5 ounces if that, and the weight difference between the stock, beefy rotor to the slimmed down larger one, is actually less.
the weight difference is a push at the worst, the advantages in braking power or significantly higher though!

Ask for Jim or Tina
They have been at it over 20 years.
I mean, if I am ordering an exhaust system anyway, I'll pay the little extra and get the Titanium version, and that might same a couple pounds.
But to save a couple pounds with Ti nuts and bolts would probably cost thousands, and unless you’re racing Pro, I don’t see the value.
The CRF450 is quite a bit lighter than the KX450F, but yet I didn’t really notice it when I tried both. Maybe it's because the KX450F has more power and grunt that it made up for it, not sure, but the KXF actually felt just as light (or heavy) to me.

Make lightweight components... carbon fiber stuff and Ti?
Just curious.

c. Carbon fiber or carbon composite brake discs and/or carriers
are not permitted.
As to weight savings: You can get 10 pounds off of a bike REAL QUICK with a Good Ti kit.
In 2008/2009 we were removing 25#s from bikes on a regualr basis...all the while we were adding Glide-Plates & Case protectors, Suspension, Brakes, Big-bars, folding-quick-adjust levers, etc. (Rememeber the 197# CRF250R?)
More importantly: You can get a coupl'a pounds (Each) out of BOTH the frt and rr unsprung areas.
It looks like it won't take much to remove .5 to 1.5 pounds out of an "Over-Sized" frt brake set; also, it WOULD be legal.
As to 500's Question: I'm still awaiting the answers on cost. I'm going to start with a Light-Weight Galfer Tsunami frt rotor that's been 'worked over' both in machining and materials and I'll take an entirely new approach to the Caliper Brkt...ALL LEGAL, too!
This crap is jus' too much fun!
Carbon isn't as fragile as you'd think when it's made to last (With a proper resin-sysem instead of the cheap crap that's ooften used); also, there are Carbon ballistic panels on Gen-5 fighters/aircraft.
Carbon rotor carriers have been done, successfully, for moto: They were/are expensive, tho.
I'm talking Ti, here.
Your target market has to be the bubba beaters at( shhh.)...sandflea.net... *RIP* .....
Just make sure the order forms are large print and only accepted after happpyyy hour.
Ti will get Norman to the next step!
Are you doing any Maico parts? I here a 490 is he bestest works bike beater
Hope you are well
hb
Have you been readin' my e-amil, again? (I'm actually workin' on a 490 for Vintage-Racin'...)
Ti couldn't get ANY Sand-Flea to "The Next-Level", DOH!
Btw, GinO says,"Hi!"
Hope all is well for you, too.
pm a brutha!
I'm building a 74.5 400gp (vintage throttle control is drum brakes) and the only Ti on this thing is a strap on my dong so I don't get it pinched in the seat gap! Knee braces and an alloy tank is a pleasure too.
Pm your email I'll send pics
I had this stupid idea to build some carbon subframe for my bike. Seems there are some cheaper carbon kits you can buy? I'm guessing that could shave of a pound? I will totally fail of course, but imagine how bling it would look! )
So these Ti kits cost what? 2k?
One thing I always do is run half tank since I will newer manage to empty one tank in a ride. That save me some serious pounds!!!
I build myself a set of Talon hubs/spokes/pro wheel rims for my CRF some years ago, and the rear wheel ended up weighting 3 pounds more than the stock Honda wheel!!!
Except ditching stupid aftermarket graphics (damn, there goes my PC graphics) and buying a Ti system, use thinner tubes and the right tires (they differ in weight) use aluminum sprocket what else can I do?
The light weight CRF (less than 200 pounds)!
Pit Row
Seriously, could be tires, and tubes. Thick tubes can weight 1 pound, and some tires are weight more than an pound extra. Add those together and maybe some less fuel, aluminum sprocket, OEM chain vs O-ring? Just there we have maybe 3-6 pounds?
I don't think they have added weight on the 06...
http://www.triplexmotorsports.net/Race%20Accessories.htm
The 06 does seem more stout and when suzuki introduced the 01 one of their biggest things was to make the 01 as light as possible hence the switch to kyb's after 00 they went a little crazy with the weight savings I can only speculate that The bike gained weight as the years came to make it more durable for sx racing. When riding it doesn't feel all that different but pushing the bike around and putting it on the stand its very easy to tell which one is lighter
An oversized brake rotor stops the bike quicker but weighs more.... so whats more important to you ?
Production Ceramic Matrix Composite brake rotors. When you pick them up it's like holding a feather instead of a rotor and is like 2# weight savings per front streetbike rotor.
I would contact them and try to get them to build you an oversized rotor for an MX bike. The fact that it is not legal for the Pro racing effects very few people that actually want to buy one.
You can save some weight by careful shopping as well.
-only buy drilled countershaft sprockets, aluminum rears, and choose your gearing by using smaller front and rears instead of larger.
-only buy drilled/ windowed chains
- Pirelli Scorpion tires are really light and hook up just sick
-the only aftermarket wheels I would consider would be tubeless Alpinas. The tube-liss system saves a small amount of weight too.
- Titanium shock spring is money well spent.
-Buy a KTM 2 stroke and save 30# just like that. My ready to ride KTM 250SX w/ heavy FlexxBars on it weighed an honest 210#.
