Like the other poster said, you can still get some amazing shots that people would never know You were in the crowd when You took them. You can still get shots with people in them. All of these were taken from spots that were general admission ticket areas. Sorry they are all so old. Many of them were even taken with a cheaper 75-300 lens. The 2 shots of RC were taken with a Sigma 50-500. It allowed me to get close enough if I did not mind walking around a little bit and getting creative, shooting across to the other side of the track. The Whip with crowd in the background was taken with the 50-500, standing a few hundred feet back 2 corners before the jump.
I am taller so it gives me a slight advantage, being able to shoot over people's heads. But at most national track, you can still get a clear line of sight by standing higher on a hill, etc.
When I shot moto I was a bit of a contrarian focusing at times on the 'story' and 'feeling of MX' - example of RC and RV2 above) not just whips, scrubs, and jumps. When you really get into it and have developed your own style ask yourself what your style is? What makes you stand apart from the other shooters? Why are you interesting? Also, challenge yourself. For example I shot the Seattle SX one year with ONE lens, a 28mm. Have fun.

I was looking on guidance on what body/lens combo you would suggest for me getting into moto photography. I sold all my gear a few years back and what to get back into it. Im looking for a nice hybrid, full frame body, with photography first and video second. I have a $4000 budget and brands im stuck between Sony and canon.
