Navigation Devices

What are you all using on your rides for navigation? I use COTREX for Colorado stuff and then upload that to Garmin Connect. I’ve used Garmin Connect for routing as well and it does a great job.

I have an older Garmin Edge that I use and it has worked great in the past. I’m looking into creating a better mount for it that sits inside or right on top of the bar pad but haven’t finished the design yet.

I use a Garmin Montana, it works well but don’t feel it’s the most intuitive to use. I just use it for dual sport events for the gpx files they share, I haven’t made my own routes with it. I made my own mount to use on the bar clamps, moto minded has a similar mount that is fairly reasonably priced.  I originally cut/grinded it out of a piece of aluminum flat stock off a print I made in solid works, once I knew it fit I used an online company OshCut to laser cut me out one that looks nicer. Also made one for my 300 that has standard clamps. Need to eventually get some better clamp bolts.IMG 3382 5.jpeg?VersionId=d98dIMG 3383 2IMG 3384.jpeg?VersionId=EYe6LIMG 3385 5IMG 3386 3

I can get behind this!

Garmin just introduced a new Zumo XT3 and new lower profile mount. Probably look hard at that when it gets released on the 20th. The smaller size and mount is really what I’m after.

If cost isn't really a concern, would a dedicated GPS like the Zumo be better, or the Voyager Pro GPS?  I think that the Voyager would be the ticket, but haven't actually used either one so wondering what the pros and cons are.

I have an older Voyager. Don’t use it for anything but mph. Ran into a couple issues with my XT3 but mostly user error and inexperience with a device that sophisticated.

IMO, the new Garmin XT3 would be the ticket if you got buddies or waypoints you can get. I got a bunch of waypoints and routes from a buddy and my Garmin Tread Map is full of stuff useful info that can provide great insight.

I'm sure you can make routes with the Voyager but not sure how the waypoint stuff works.

For just routing and ease of use; a cycling device like my 530 works great. It’s small, compact and battery life is crazy. You just have to get creative with the route building and if you get a bigger 10X0 series it won’t do a horizontal display like the Zumo Series does.

I had a pretty funny realization when looking at this photo in that I’ve technically got 3 navigation devices on my bike the other day.
