I just recieved my box of parts to start building my 2019 FX into a dual sport! It was my "parts" bike for my 2019 hare scramble bike. I bought the roller and it was so nice I ended up buying a WR450F engine, fuel pump, throttle body, and wifi module from Australia. It was half the cost to buy parts from Australia and ship them here because people in the US want as much money for an engine as a complete bike which is crazy. I lucked out on the engine, it was brand new other than some nasty road rash on the clutch cover. Either it was a test ride crash or someone bought it and crashed before the bike was even broken in. I used it as a practice bike for hare scrambles and then for a Moab trip last fall installed a head and tail lights. After riding this bike on the highway several times to connect trails I thought it would actually be a decent dual sport, so here we are.
Gearing: 14/50
Tail light: Acerbis
Headlight: Chinese LED with low/high beam and running lights.
Front Blinkers: Tusk handguard mounted lights in Cycra Pro Bend Ultra's.
Rear Blinkers: Tusk Stem mounted version 1, planning on mounting them on the sides of the acerbis tail light.
Wiring Harness: Tusk enduro harness, I'm currently modifying it to delete the on/off wires and change some of the connectors.
Light Switch: Tusk.
Horn: Tusk.
Key: Sicass Racing, going to cut power from the starter button and short the kill switch for now. I don't want to cut the factory harness more than necessary, and this bike won't be used for commuting or left anywhere sketchy. The lights only come on when the "ignition" is live because I added two relays that are closed via the ECM switched on power. One is power for the Headlight and future USB power, the other is for the tail light, brake light, turn signals, and horn.
Speedo: For now I'm just going to use my phone and the Yamaha Power Tuning app. It has a pretty sweet layout with GPS Speed, RPM, Throttle Position, Battery Voltage, Air Temp, Water Temp, Calculated Fuel Consumption, and 3 hour expected weather widget.
Future Adds: Seat Concepts Comfort Seat, actual DOT Tires, rear rack, maybe a 3 gallon tank.

Got the tail light assembly done! Drilled holes in the acerbis tail light mount for the blinkers and then tied the grounds to the one for the light. Tusk could put longer wires on the blinkers, they were too short so I spliced them to get them up to the battery compartment to connect to the harness.
Got the wiring all ran, horn mounted, and blinkers installed on the front. Ended up going with stem mounted blinkers on the head light housing. I put 2 relays on for power distribution, one for the head light and one for everything else. The are switched by the ignition hot wire, on these Yamahas it's the brown wires. This way you can't leave the light on and kill the battery. I'm going to clean up the wiring more and shorten anything that's too long because it gets thick fast. Couldn't wait though so had to take it for a test ride!
I like wrap around hand guards, but running into issues with the brake banjo switch, the wire sticks out rear far. Might tray regular MX guards because I'm worried a tip over could rip out that brake switch wiring.
