I had a replacement ankle (Inbone) done in 2016 been pain free about %90 of the time, took 5 surgeries and lots of hardware to get to this point, I still ride my CRF450 back in our trails now and then you never lose the passion.

Very similar to my break,  Pilon fracture , did mine June of 2003 by casing a big double.

First pic was the original hardware from 2003.  IMG 3944 3IMG 2013.png?VersionId=iprO9gOzQjp7RMl

Other pic is now,  had a ankle replacement in 2024 due to severe arthritis.

I’m approaching ankle replacement as well, holding out as long as I can.
I broke both L & R talus, L calcaneus, R cuboid and fib in 2012 (MVA, not Moto)
Subtalar fusion on L side, but… my R ankle is so loaded with arthritis that I’m prepping for replacement

10 ankle surgeries total so far (5 L and 5 R), more to come 😖

My Surgeon is trying to talk me out of a replacement and go with a total fusion, but I’m not stoked on that idea! He has some valid points though…

Hoping your Replacement is kickin’ ass! 🤟

Wow,  we are similar only opposite sides,  my right ankle has a subtalor fusion and it is good

For my left it took me like a year and discussing with 3 different Docs, but yes it was either fusion or replacement. I went with the replacement mainly due to keeping flexibility.  So far it has been good.  I can walk / hike for miles and do pretty much everything.  No real running or jumping but was not been able to do that with the arthritis so bad.

Now my son who us 33, had a full fusion of his ankle like 4 years ago and he is very active and does good with it,

definitely talk to a couple Dr.s.  Good luck.

Exactly, sounds like we are mirror images!

We definitely can write a tune about “The Broken Ankle Blues”.

But, most responding in this thread can probably write a verse or two as well 😖

L sub talar fusion for me is good too, although my left calf is considerably smaller than the R. Looks strange when I wear shorts, but whatever :-)

No running for me either. I joke with my Wife, if the house ever catches fire, I’m walking for my life!

Interesting about your Son, I always envisioned a full fusion as being so limiting. Encouraging that he is kickin ass!

Did they give you a rough timeframe on the lifespan of the replacement? My surgeon says 10-ish years (providing the other ankle is good). Which in both of our cases, the “other” ankle is compromised.

He said 15 to 20 years so hope so. Mine is made by company called Zimmer.

Not sure what part of Cali you are from but my son is out there, he hits most the tracks in SoCal but mainly races NGPC and such.
