Suggest taking the Red line trolley to the stadium. The parking can be a pain at the end. Mostly all seating is good. Usually a chance of rain/sprinkle, so bring a small towel or raincoat to be safe
Do the same with a1 for the past 6-7 years. Know where to stay and all that. Doing SD this year and was wondering the best hotels that aren’t in a shit hole.
Lived in San Diego (mission hills) just up the hill from this hotel. Its a short walk to old town for dinner and trolly station for the races.

Did they add more parking lot exits when they built Snapdragon, or did they keep it at 2 for 15K+ cars like the Qualcomm days? I went every year from 1980 - 1995, but haven't been to one since 2007.

The trolley is the key to missing the traffic insanity. Find a hotel next to a trolley stop and you'll be fine. Lots of places along the trolley, depending on where you want to stay.
Hotel circle is full of hotels, but not much to do, really. Downtown can be fun. Old town is good too, and a little more laid back. Depends on what kind of vibe you're looking for. Just don't stay too far down the line as the trolley isn't the fastest of public transportation.
If you've got a car, you can drive a trolley stop or two away from the stadium and skip all the traffic while staying wherever you want.
Watch the weather and dress accordingly should there be rain. Stadium is nice and lots of good seats.
The wife and I stayed in little Italy last week and had a blast. Great restaurants/bars and a bit of an “older” crowd. Still fun but not as wild as downtown. Depends on what you’re looking for.
I'll be about the 5th person to recommend the trolley. I park at the Fashion Valley Mall and go east to the stadium. The only problem is that the run times heading back west at night are about 30 minutes apart, so get yo ass back to the station right when the 450 main ends or you'll miss a train (or two) due to the crowd.
Yes- I took the train back at last years race and even after waiting for at least an hour after the race was over it was crammed with people.
I had the same problem. My son and I missed the very first train by about 2 people, then we missed the next one because the crowd had squeezed up to the line and the doors opened in a spot too far away from where we were standing. The train filled up before we made the doors - again! We got screwed.
Never been to SD so thinking of being touristy and staying somewhere on the beach. Hotels are super cheap. So old town is where it’s at and all the happenings? I don’t get too crazy anymore but love a good meal a place to drink after with no riff raff
Old Town is pretty close to the stadium and right next to the trolley stop, so it's convenient. But it's pretty touristy. Full of restaurants and a bars, though, mostly Mexican food.
Mission Valley is closer yet, full of hotels, but it doesn't have much character. It's mostly chain restaurants and malls.
Most anything next to a trolley stop is either pretty touristy (Downtown, Old Town, etc.) or not worth going to. Not much out east along the trolley line till you get to La Mesa. No trolley stops near a beach, unless you count the harbor downtown.
If you have a car or don't mind a rideshare/taxi, then you can stay wherever and just drive to a trolley stop and take the trolley in to the stadium and back out. If you're here for a bit, check out various areas to get a feel for the city. There's a lot more to it than just the beach and downtown. It is hard without a car as San Diego is super spread out and doesn't have great public transportation.
Parking is 100x worse than Anaheim.

Actually since it’s a small stadium. I like to sit high. I sat lower level last year and couldn’t see the other side
Just spend the money on an Uber.
I park down the road from the Stadium at the grocery store and take an Uber to the stadium.
