Really cool, hope they do good.
It's funny because the Photoshop pics have been altered. They changed the wings from the fugly Dallara and added wings from the Lola's from 1998, and then the display car isn't even a current operating ICS race car. Goes to show that even the teams dislike the look of the current Indycar. It's Fugly!
I won't defend the current Dallara, but they were built to a stringent rule book and that 's what you end up with. Just like the Grand-Am cars. They are ugly because of the rule book. Hopefully Dallara will do a better job for the 2011 car.
The last Reynard was the best-looking of them all. It also was the best for build quality and was very mechanic friendly. But I was working there then, so I may be biased
But if you ask any Indycar mechanic who was around for the last days at CART on into the current Indycar series, they would agree!

Good to see there are others on here.
Grew up in Indiana and now live in Texas, been to every Indy race at TMS since it opened, even the last two years where I have done "the double", Freestone and TMS on the same day.
I don't care so much about the car, I'm just so happy that turbo engines will be back for 2012.
An Indy car will sound like an Indy car again.
A V6 turbo with a low rev limiter isn't going to bring back memories of 15,000 rpm turbo V8's!
"He's on it" , "It's a new track record", and the sound of the turbo engines is what I loved.
My dad went something like 35 years in a row, I went from like 1985 to 1996.
Have they released any detailed engine specs for 2012 yet. The last I read about a month ago was that they were looking at limiting the fuel.
I know the current Honda has a rev limiter but in the 80's wasn't it a POP OFF valve that monitored manifold pressure from the turbo? A.J. always got a bad one for qualifying.
Why wold they need a rev limiter for the new spec?
Yes, in the previous era they used pop-off valves to limit boost, but revs were unlimited.
The boost limit got so low in the end, that Toyota decided to build a motor for ovals that ran boost on one cylinder bank (left side I think) while the other side was normally aspirated. They ran really high revs to compensate for no boost on the right bank.
The thing was ear-splittingly loud because of the unrestricted exhaust on the rh bank.
I remember being at Motegi, and a guy who was suspected of being a spy for another Japanese engine manufacturer (which shall remain nameless!) had his camera confiscated and was thrown out of Ganassi's garage.
Toyota initially used the engine for qualifying only, but then got the drivability good enough to use in race trim. I don't think they used it on road courses, but I could be wrong.
Good stuff!
