I think they may have been a bit excessive in track grooming this year. I spotted these high precision tools doing a post race track walk near the uphill triple:

I was very surprised how much track work was done this year.. I love watching GP's because of how rough they let the tracks get so It was weird to see cats on the track. Especially since the word on the streets is the USA guys excel on groomed tracks. You would think they'd try to give the euros any advantage they can.

Yes, there was some grooming going on.

I was personally amazed at the way the dirt held up. Massive ruts, but it really didn't get very rough for the most part.

I did see a few nasty square edge bumps in places, but, overall, most of it remained very smooth.

Did you walk the long sweeper after the big table top in the back? That thing was like a bunch of stair steps with each step being about 3' wide and very smooth.

That track is inherently hard pack and it wasn't tilled. Most of the track had the natural dirt on it with a little imported sand and clay in the lower parts. Doesn't surprise me at all really. That' what black clay looks like if it's not loamy. We have a lot of it here in Texas.

I know what you are talking about, but it wasn't like black clay I've seen around here (mainly Corpus).

This stuff was kind of granular and retained some texture to it rather than just turning hard and blue groove. I have never seen dirt perform like this did.
