one day soon...a lot of people are going to lose their asses.

Maybe a few years out, but it will happen.

It's going up because people are putting money into it. Speculators are playing around with the value. They'll take their loot and disappear just like they did with oil.

While I think people should be able to invest in it, their needs to be a way to keep the traders from artificially inflating prices...but, there isn't.

Wall Street is focused on a continuous cycle of bubbles.

We rebuild, they inflate, bleed us, then leave us for dead.

But they dig more out of the ground daily, at a rate of 50 million troy ounce per year

but, they can...gold certificates and funds based on gold?

there is active speculation in the gold market just like what drove the oil market to record highs and is keeping it up where it is.

Gold is also a raw material...it has a use for jewelry and in manufacturing of all sorts. This is the only real market for gold. Don't see any shortages in those areas.

Exactly

Nothing keeps the speculators from making their money and disappearing. It ends up costing each and every one of us. This is truly what todays economy is all about.

It's totally wrecked our economy.

That would mean that the economics of this were based on a true market value.

True market is a thing of the past.

For those that are considering gold as an option, do not use GoldLine. Wife dumped 10G into it 4 years ago... With their fees and BS pricing structure you lose no matter what... With gold hitting an all time high I decided to dump it last month... To the tune of a 4200 dollar loss. I rolled the money into a more sound investment, a 66 Chevelle.

Because they have a vested professional interest in keeping money out of the field and on the sidelines, because the more and longer money sits on the sidelines, the worse the economy gets because no one is investing in business or new business.

and the economy failing, Obama failing and in turn our Nation failing is the ultimate goal, regardless of the consequences, because then that makes them "right" and empowers them to their blind followers

The money sitting on the sidelines has nothing to do with the republicans trying to damage Obama. Those who are sitting on the sidelines know that round two of the meltdown is on the way. Those toxic assets that took all the big boys down are still sitting on their books, just as over valued as they were before. Ignoring that, isn't going to make it go away.

I believe Jim is correct on this to some extent.

But, the money is in play. Just not in a productive way.

gold at 1200 is not a bubble . if it goes to 2000 as oldfart says (and it might) that will be a bubble . rising gold is just people betting the us dollar (and the euro and pound to a lesser extent) is going down .... it really is that simple .

flarider nailed it why the right wingers are pushing gold . manufacturing a self fufiling prophecy .

gold at 300? not for decades .... too many big economy countries with massive debt loads for that to happen .

All of you should invest in gold teeth. That way I can stay busy and repay the $900 for the ounce I just bought.

Yes, gold is a bubble, and bubbles are created so some can profit from it.

Just another example of how phony our economy really is.

oh, you mean right wing nut jobs like George Soros and John Paulson.

14. George Soros

Net Worth: $14.2 billion

Source: Investments

Residence: Westchester County, N.Y.

Age: 80

America's wealthiest hedge fund manager has been cashing out of U.S. equities lately and moving into gold, holding the equivalent of 16 tons of the stuff through a gold exchange-traded fund. Another big investment: liberal causes. Through his $2 billion Open Society Institute, Soros pledged $100 million to Human Rights Watch in September, in part to counteract America's loss of the "moral high ground." He also gave $50 million to the Robin Hood Foundation, a favorite of Wall Street types. The prolific philanthropist has given away more than $8 billion since 1979. Now the Hungarian immigrant is looking to Asia; he bought 4% of the Bombay Stock Exchange in August. Soros founded the predecessor to his Quantum Fund in 1969, later bringing in Jim Rogers, and he reportedly made $1 billion shorting the British pound with Stanley Druckenmiller in 1992. He locked out new investors in 2000; much of Quantum Endowment Fund's $20 billion in assets are said to be his.

20. John Paulson

Net Worth: $12.4 billion

Source: hedge funds

Residence: New York, N.Y.

Age: 54

Paulson made $3.5 billion in 2007 shorting stocks of companies that sold subprime mortgages to those with less-than-perfect credit. Now he's betting on gold: His fund recently bought a 9% stake in NovaGold Resources and is one of the largest holders of gold exchange-traded funds. Paulson's bet against subprime referenced in SEC suit against Goldman Sachs. Two months later his Paulson & Co. bought shares in the firm; he's also been investing in gaming outfits like Harrah's and MGM. He got his start at Odyssey Partners, a private equity and hedge fund and later became managing director of M&A at Bear Stearns. He founded Paulson & Co in 1994. The tycoon currently owns a 10.4-acre estate on Southampton's Lake Agawam.

Oh wait those guys are big Obama supporters.
how can this be?Shocked

All I know is we are not even close to the bottom. The current and future financial issues this country is experiencing are going to make the "Great Depression" look like a ride a Disneyland.
