5 things that stood out to me about Pala…

1: Toyota had an amazing front. Amazing in the sense of being every where in your face at all times. Trucks everrrrywhere.

2: CPK was in full effect. But what I would have given for an In-n-Out burger truck also. And well, not standing in line for a pizza for 30min.

3: Anyone who says the track was a freeway was NOT there.

4: Deano was "on the pipe". Why can't we use that term anymore Wink

5: The track was badass imo. I loved how jumpy it was. The jumps make the sport appeal to more than hardcore racers. It helps bring in "outsiders".

Ok 6 things…

6: Damn I was impressed with what they did with the place. When I heard that they were going to hold a nat there I was skeptical to say the least. I was blown away by what they did with the joint. I can't wait for this race next year.

Couple pics from the day...

Yup. Thanks Dave.

Btw, right click and "view image" if anyone wants to see the non-scaled version.

It looks like Trey punted CP in this one hehe. He didn't though Smile

Those rollers that looked so mellow on tv that these dudes were PINNED over were deep!:

The track was awesome, but not so much for spectating or access to the facility. . Would have loved to have rode on it and it was rough. Those rollers were gnarly and tv definItely did not do them justice. They should build a massive spectating hill to aid in viewing.

Deets, I agree there are a couple things that would have been nice and hopefully next year they are fixed. A big ass spectating hill ala redbud would be nice for sure.

All in all it was a great event though.

a buddy of mine tried to qualify and said it was BY FAR the gnarliest track he had ever ridden.

anyone who says or was saying that the track was a freeway/supercross track has obviously not ridden a dirt skooter very much.

Maybe it would help that specator area if they didn't block the view of the track with 30 portapotties.

Haha, that picture is deceiving. The hill is way across the track looking at another section. Those portapoo's weren't really in the way like they seem.

Speaking of mxdn... I don't have plans so far. Does anyone need a photog?

Crewshin, I totally agree with you. Amazing day of racing. If you think the track wasn't rough, or you said it was as flat as a "WalMart parking lot", you weren't there; or else you have some issues.

As many of you know (or don't) for the last few years I had been a VERY vocal critic of the Nationals in the US after attending a few GP's. I openly criticized the set up and organization as "amateurish"

Well, not any more.

Pala was an EXTREMELY well organized, set up and run event.

Sure, traffic is/was an issue, but as a whole, from the standpoint of the event itself, it was one of the best run events I have ever been too.

Pala really set a high standard for all other races.

and before anyone accuses me of ass-kissing or being an "industry suck ass," I have very loudly criticized the Nationals in the past, and had long discussions on the phone with DC about my dislike of them.

I will return to Pala next year

I agree!....I will be returning as well.

One thing that I personally have never experienced at a national but did at Pala was absolute freedom! I hope they dont change the way they run this race.

Once you got in the gate you were in, basically parking all around the facility. If I had gotten there earlier I could've been sitting in the back of my truck at the fence line. There werent many people running aroung policing every move or thing you bring in. I really liked the access to my truck while being in the national like this it was a lot more convienent than and GH or Hangtown round. Didnt see any fights or beligerant people (though Im sure there were some) It was reallly easy to get around the place and at one time me and my buddies were in the white team tents where the teams watch the start, RV walked behind us leg is still pretty swollen.

I too think Pala set a standard, the only thing it really needs is a little polishing with some Sod in certain areas I actually had a fine layer of dust covering my forehead but other than that, the convienence of coming in the gate in your vehicle and being able to roam around easily was bar none the best experience Ive had at a national and I was very skeptical before going.

DC you guys knocked it out of the park with this one.

Dave, the track looked great perched in my living room. I have skipped Southwick two years in a row due to the overkill of inside track banners and track blocking balloons. Unadilla was by far the best run track which actually seems to cater to the FANS and tried their best not to block the track with unnecessary banners. Pala looked flat and I don't take Photographers opinions of how the track looked because their access to view the racing is a hell of a lot different without banners. Looking from a Hi-Def tv the track seemed to have followed other Nationals this year and placed banners wherever they thought there was tv exposure regardless of how it would block out the racing from fans who actually went to the track. Again, the track looked great and challenging. Just seems that if a track is layed out on flat land there should be a ban on the use of any banner on the inside of the track.

Who gives a flying fig newton?

Seriously, why do we care if the riders like it? If the best racing is provided by tracks the riders hate then so be it. Not saying this is the case. Conversely if the best racing is provided by tracks the riders love that is okay too. Either way, can someone please tell me why we care if the riders like it?

Best Venue and Event Mgmt I've seen at a U.S. National MX...well...except for Traffic Control (But, that has no effect on me!)

Riders ride because it's fun. When they stop having fun, they stop winning. When they stop winning, the money goes elsewhere. When the money goes elsewhere, they stop paying out of their own pocketbooks to go make US happy.
