Ryan Villopoto - same wrist problem I have?

My dad told me that somebody he knew said that RV2 has the same problem i'm having. Ever since I had wrist surgery on my scaphoid bone I haven't had anything near normal flexibility in my throttle hand wrist. I decided to browse through photos of RV and I noticed he hardly ever has his right wrist bent (just like me) and in his 250f photos I noticed he is always wearing a wrist brace on his right wrist. Does anybody know if he had a scaphoid injury, and if he can bend his right wrist?

After 5 surgeries on mine,I had to have one more surgery...........to fuse it. Sucks because it's the throttle hand. I didn't ride for about 3 years. Then wore a brace like RV for the first year back. Now I wear no brace(because the entire wrist is solid bone).

I have a few metacarpals that allow me some minor hand movement but essentially I have to use my patented "Chicken Wing" method of throttle control. Using shoulder and elbow to control the throttle. I'm much slower due to the wrist but at least I can ride.I have little control in whoops and some jumps and rough tracks but I just ride easier and try to stay centered on the bike. Whiskey throttle sucks! No idea how RV still goes like he does. Oh,and right hand turns are the worst because your elbow is tucked into your ribs. Very little throttle finesse. Good luck D. Hopefully you won't need to get it fused.Unsure

yes he did, happened back in the Am's and raced his 250 career with it, and thats why you saw the wrist brace in older pics. He had it repaired again though.

Tennis.

After breaking mine, I got strength and about 80% rom back by hitting about 200,000 balls.

It hurt, but it helped.

Why don't you flip the controls on your bike? I bet it wouldn't take that long to get used to a left hand throttle...

As you know Matt had a shocker of a year as Dungey's team mate, he had a screw placed in his scaphiod just before rd 1 of the outdoor, his movement was 15% and the pain was concentration breaking after 4 laps, he has sat out the last 3 rounds of the series to get ready for SuperX, last tuesday he went and visited Villo's surgeon and the screw was tightened and a little area ground off the bone to increase movement, by his report the bone is starting to join.

Here's my xrays after breaking my left wrist that required it to be fused.

7.5hrs later and the wrist became famous in the Hand Journal of Medicine.

Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue After 43 years on a bike,I don't think so.Laughing And a thumb trigger is about as bad. The angles you get into on a bike would not be good for ATV throttle and still holding on. I always laugh when someone suggest those fixes.But thanks.

I believe Villopoto has a girlfriend, so he probably doesn't J it too much, so I doubt its the same problem as you have. No smiley faces.

Do you understand the throttle actuation is the OPPOSITE, ie: roll forward to go and twist back to slow??

I try not to let small details get in the way of my major ideas.
But assuming you are serious, making a throttle tube that works in reverse doesn't look that hard to do.

Any ortho doc online? What's with the screws extending past the bone? (not the only time that I see something like that)
Do you have a fairly precise plan before you start screwing things in, or is it more of "make it up as you go with whatever is in the erector set?"
